Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

Intersting Choices

I was one of the people caught uo in the last Layoff, I did make good money, and the environment is a bit toxic as they have thier techs, and everyone else is undervalued and used as payraise / bonus fodder at the end of the year so thier techs can be given more.

When I look actoss the layoffs, the most glaring thing I see is that almost 100% of the people that were let go were over 50, and I was brought to my attention that they eliminated tech roles to make room for some of thier techs who unsuccessfully became mangers, as a place for rhem to land....

Now, they promised the FCC that they woukd add Jobs, not eliminate them. With this layoff, they hit alit of people who are very good at thier Job, and just very good all around in telecomm, just to make room for thier buddies....

We all know the T-mobile values, it aeems that they really do not apply to management.

Way to go T-mobile, let go of the people who helped you get there because they make a good Salary and are over a certain age.

I really hope the FCC or some other government agency looks into thier layoff crtieria. I never had a bad performance review, and were rarely had one on ones unless we asked management for them, and in my last one, I was told to keep up the good work.....

T-Mobile always retained a large amount of tenured employees. With 20+ years tenure means a nice decent higher salary. Which will also naturally have people in a higher age bracket when you factor the age bracket on how old someone is when they start. Of those 50+ you saw affected, how many were with the company say just 5 years, thats going to be uncommon. Many factors drove these layoffs, including overlapping positions, tenure/salary(saves opex), and even location. The ugly side of large corporate mergers, it sux.

what if they let you go then posted your job again in the same office with less pay?

It’s about the bottom line. I was laid off in 2022 and found out my job was taken over by a contractor, who afaik was not converted.

Nice attempt at spinning the narrative and trotting out sacred cows. It's a business that decided that it needed fewer people doing things. Management then decided which things they no longer needed to do. Unfortunately, people were impacted. Fewer people terminations might stand for some scrutiny, but the elimination of entire groups including their management will not. It's not a state enterprise.

They fire you for being old - but hey give you a severance agreement that you must sign that says you will not sue them for firing you for being old. Take the money or fight a huge corporation in court. The law says that you can hire non US citizens on a work permit if you can't find US citizens to do the work. The government does not enforce this. They hire non US citizens on work permits and lay off US citizens that are doing the same job. It is all of our country now - the rule of law only applies when it gets the powerful what hey want.
