Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

Don't Delay Your Job Search If TMO Layoff Casualty

A word to the wise, don't delay starting a job search as the market is "clogged" with thousands of people with the same basic skill sets being laid off from the Telecom industry.

AT&T, Verizon, Dish AND T-Mobile are all going through widespread layoffs.

The sooner you get out the gate the better looking for a new job!

You'll lose the severance pkg & what remaining 'garden pay' you have remaining if you take a job prior to your official severance date (Nov 2023). It'll be considered a voluntary separation from the company & they don't have to pay you

“Okay Boomer”? More likely OP is a member of Gen X, who most has the resourcefulness and resiliency to weather a layoff and recession. We were put through the crucible of graduating into recession in the early 1990’s and weathered several layoffs and subsequent recessions. While patiently waiting for the Boomers in management to finally retire. Then accepting reality and moving on when they didn’t. We know to save for a rainy day while understanding that competition for the few decent jobs is fierce when do many companies are going t@ts up and laying off. Here’s a free tip, you can sell plasma for a few bucks when your funds dry up after your world tour.

@jpq+1ovWoBT0 "You can always get a vacation later"

Okay boomer. Or, I can travel the world and gain experiences that you never will. Just spend your life commuting to work and sitting in a cube waiting for the weekend, and begging old bossman for your 3 weeks PTO.

PS: It will make me more employable than you.

PPS: Multiple streams of income ;).

I got cut a year ago. I would have started looking immediately - if I had not decided to retire. For younger people or those that are not in the position to retire I would get on it.

It is already too late. A candidate’s desirability plummets after a layoff. No good employer wants a failed company’s rejects. The time to leave was the during the Great Resignation where the workers called the shots.

But no, you CHOSE to stay with a company that has shown you nothing but disdain since the Sprint merger. YES, it was a choice and if it wasn’t your choice it means that you desperately need to enhance your skillset because companies were hiring anyone who walked upright and had a pulse.

Stop whining and waiting for bad things to happen. Proactively and preemptively DO SOMETHING.

You should also be looking for something even if you survived this round. Take on a big project and quit in the middle of it so the SLT misses their goals for not having anyone else to do it. F T-Mobile.

That also means they can lowball you on pay. I'm definitely waiting 2 months to avoid losing some severance. It will likely be January before its worth looking at serious offers.

It’s always been both ways. Some can find a new gig easy quick. Others take longer and sooner the better start searching.

At least everyone got a bit of severance. What su-ks are the future waves that’ll get pip out of their roles. That’s next.

Putting it all together I have 8 months of salary adding the garden leave and 6 months of salary replacement, plus the addition of RSU's ESPP, Unused PTO. I have zero debt.

Why not take a couple weeks? That way I can use some non stress time to figure out should i stay or should i go from the PNW.

There will always be jobs available and how soon someone decides to look for another opportunity is completely dependent on each individual. If someone can financially and personally take some time off after these layoffs between jobs I think a lot of people need a little time to breath and take care of themselves/mental health after this chaos.

Oh fu-k off with that advice. I have many different skillets. I've worked one side hustle for almost 10 years that I make almost as much as I did in this job. Since 2020, I've also picked up a second doing contractor work for various companies. I've done so well with that that I've greatly reduced the amount of time I spend on my original side hustle. The only thing I lost from being laid off is health insurance which I'll pick up myself once the 2 months of free Cobra runs out. I feel sorry for the one-trick ponies like the OP.

I think the person who is saying cr-p about LinkedIn headhunter is just faking you. They are just wanting to reduce competition. I would get my a-s out and find a job right away. You can always get a vacation later. That way you can keep your severance/bonus. Why burn your savings or severance when it can be used for better purposes. Early retirement savings, home improvements, pay down debt, or knock out the mortgage.

It’s a good thing my skill set and experience extends way beyond telecom.

I feel really sorry for people who have very telecom-specific experience only. Not a good place to be.

You must be one of the headhunters on LinkedIn.

I'll take my time, thank you.
