Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

PSA: There's no set protocol to inform You

Just want to throw this out there... in years past, if you were getting cut you would get an invite from your manager or manager's manager either the night before or early in the morning. A few minutes before the call actually took place, your manager would forward the invite to your HR person. That's how HR would suddenly be on the call, completely unexpected by you. Fast forward to today... there's no protocol for how they are doing these meetings. They're cutting so many, most of the time, HR isn't even on the call. Remember, Sprint has already disassembled the HR Org there's hardly enough HR people to sit in on all these meetings. You won't be able to figure what's happening to you based on what kind of meeting maker you're being sent. Just try to relax and not get so worked up. I've gone through it and you'll be happier in the end if you have to leave Magenta. Look at these threads! What do you think the morale will be at this company for the people that are left to pick up 50% more of the work? The T-M-O title should help you find a job with another company, just get a strong resume and devote yourself to job searching. The company you loved does not exist anymore. The faster you make peace with that, the easier it will all be.

"The company you loved does not exist anymore."

It never existed. Stop worshiping your employer. It's a contractual relationship. If you want to love your co-workers and your boss, your office space, and your commute, you can love it all, but none of it is the company you work for. The company you work for is a legal entity that is legally required to maximize shareholder value. Who told you it was anything more?

"Looks like someone is bitter because they got investigated by HR. If it can all be done electronically, go check for you name on the list today. Sounds like you were a real joy to work with, so you'll likely be the first to go."

What an uncivil reply. You incorrectly read into an insightful comment. Honestly it doesn't sound like you're personally too happy with yourself.

Good.luck with your job search.

"not much need for HR which is perhaps the most worthless department in a company."

The notification process ypu describe has been pretty standard in the corporate world in the past. To your point, it seems like there's not enough HR representatives to go around, but did they ever really add any value? It seems like they were there on the call as babysitters to protect the company. Nowadays almost all information related to mass layoffs is distributed electronically and available online, so not much need for HR which is perhaps the most worthless department in a company.
