Thread regarding USAA layoffs

I'm burnt out

I'm burnt out mentally, emotionally, and physically. I can barely get myself to do anything, and I know I won't be able to function at all in this environment for much longer. This is an utterly unhealthy work environment and I admire people who can continue to function in it unaffected.

I’m feeling the exact same! 25 years in and I’ve always been in this same toxic environment; however, I’ve been through and worked through so much in the past five years that I just can’t seem to snap out of this feeling this time. Exhausted, depressed, overwhelmed, overworked, unappreciated- there aren’t enough words to describe it! I keep telling my boss that I need to take my PTO to clear my head; however, there is no one to cover while I’m out and the new claims don’t stop flowing in.

Remember this: USAA and all companies are evil and don't give a cr-p about you. You should look elsewhere for employment. Quit before it gets worse.

You know you're allowed to quit and work some where else right? You definitely won't make as much, but you'll be doing better mentally.

Go see a counselor and get FMLA for this. Two coworkers did it and get paid while off...I think up to 3 months? I think each month the pay decreases a %, but it should keep you afloat. When I hit my year, I will do the same as I too can relate. During this time, I will focus energy on finding new job as I wont be returning. I knew for sure this is a problem for me when I heard the news of the recent tragedy and thought to myself "oh, yeh, I totally get it".

You can also get a medical exemption to work from home. Go to counselor and tell them it gives you anxiety/depression to wake up 2 hours earlier, sit in traffic for an hour, to go to a place that can't even give you an assigned desk. It is all just a machine. Nothing in that office is more important than being able to step away form your desk to pet your dog, play with your children, or talk with your spouse. It is a machine and the people who run it have no sense of culture. This is the only life we get as far as we know...so use the rules within the machine to your benefit (RTO exemption/FMLA). See a counselor...trust me.

When I realized that USAA catfished me about the job i took, I was super depressed. Slightly more money yes, but I left a tenured position at a place I have been at for years only to get screwed over by this company. First thing I did was get a new job. It was tough admittingly because I was depressed and desperate and I felt recruiters/hiring managers felt that but at the end of the day I went back to my old company. Never been happier! Point is do what makes you happy OP and first thing I thing would be to leave this sh---y a-s place behind!

I don't know individual cases, but when I left USAA, I spent a solid month improving my diet, taking up physical activity that I enjoyed, and took training classes to keep my mind active in my field.

This really pays off in the long run. Some jobs, I knew I didn't want them because my mind, body and emotions were in better shape. Some jobs I didn't get because my skills had lapsed. Now I am happily re-employed at a job I realize now I should have never left.

It's kinda' like fixing an old car (which I started in my time off, also, to give me something else to think about and to use my hands). The joy I am having getting it back in shape is immeasurable!

Just like me!

Sincerely, I'm mid-career now and the one thing I wish I could tell my younger self is that no job is worth physical and mental burnout. It's. Not. Worth. It. Go to your doctor and let them know what's going on. Ask for some time off to build a new regimen that focuses on getting healthy. A job will always be waiting. It may not be this one but most likely will be a better one.

Genuinely and sincerely, please schedule an appointment with your doctor or medical provider as soon as you can. It’s the first step on the road to better health.

I am so sorry you are experiencing this.

Speaking from first-hand experience, I recommend talking to your doctor to explore underlying causes and options for focusing on your physical and mental health.

You may want to specifically discuss applying for short-term disability as you strive toward better physical and mental health.

Please know you are never alone — there is an entire ecosystem of help available.

Right there with you. I feel like a burned out husk and have little energy for anything.
