I’m trying to get the heck out of UHC as mass lay offs are happening in waves all year. Fairly confident I will receive an offer letter from Centene. I got on here to look around.. I had no clue y’all were laying off too. Is it any better over here!!? Starting to think no where is safe

UHC is notorious for surprise layoffs and lawsuits. I think Centene is better despite current turmoil
No ma'am or sir. We just got notice today since someone blew the secret out of the water.
OP why are you leaving UHC? Is it only because you think you will be laid off? If you’re happy there don’t assume you’ll be laid off. I tell folks the same thing at Centene that want to leave because they fear they will be laid off but why leave because they may not be one of the ones on the chopping block. If there are other issues at UHC and you’re unhappy then I apologize and please disregard my comment. Wishing you the best outcome in whatever you end up doing.
Yes, while I can't say that centene is great, I don't think they are much worse than any other place. Plus I have not always heard the best things about UCH.
So much of it depends on what department and manager you end up with.
It really depends on what you're looking for. Centene's largest business is Medicaid and Marketplace, with some Medicare. Enrollment will decrease by at least 10% because of Medicaid determinations. If it's a pay bump from what you currently receive, I would consider it. Usually, customer service has a high turnover.
From y’all’s comments the companies seem very similar. I would normally try to laterally move to another department buuut we are in a hiring freeze.. and have been for a lonnng time. It is rough over here. We are basically chained to our seats or threatened. They have layed off thousands and thousands so far. I guess we’ll see what happens
New leadership is trying to get rich on the company mnf built, they are not trying to fix anything . Top leadership is weak and unprepared , and not very smart, it is just for the money,so it reeks here.
It is really chaotic in CNC, they have a CEO that is more like a board puppet and nobody knows for real what is going on in here, there might not Centene at all in a couple of years, I would say UHC is more solid and structured overall.
They all su-k….welcome to healthcare.
It’s no safer than anywhere else right now. Seems to me UHC could have more opportunities for lateral/horizontal movement. Centene is going through a rocky patch right now. Neidorff did not address deep rooted issues and now the new leadership is trying to catch up.
Current employee of Centene and on my way out by choice. Been here for many years. There are people in leadership positions that don’t deserve to be there.. As far as I can tell I’m not on the layoff list but would not care if I was. This place is not what it used to be. If you get an offer and accept it I hope you get a good spot under a good leader.
It’s a customer service supervisor position, if that matters
I think it will depend on where you are landing, there are some oasis of safety here, but I think the general consensus is that Centene has turned into a very dysfunctional place in recent times.
I currently work for Centene and I think its a great company. We will never really know about layoffs anywhere we work so that is always a risk. Of course there are issues and things that I don't like but overall, its a great company.
Thank you for the heads up, dang.. I was really hoping I had found some where good!!
Centene has become the laughing stock of healthcare. I would stay away from this place if you can.
Would not recommend Centene, I would use it as leverage to stay where you are, no good prospect in this place.
Try to survive in UHC, Centene is managed like a rodeo and have one of the worst hr you can imagine, with the current CEO that goes by the poet and only talks about hyper local, liquid data and the microcosm I suspect things will get bad here
