What was your compensation as a DS?
Ets.
A DS at T-Mobile is nothing no than knowing SQL and basic macros and VBA. In the real world they are entry level Data administrators.
I am curious which departments are laying off DS.
i know lot of ds directors getting laid off this time.
Ronke would be your only hope
any chances of finding roles internally?
The job market is flooded by laid off data scientists from FAANG. If you have experience on GenAI, you will quickly find a new role. Otherwise, I suggest you find a role internally until the job market improve.
Data Scientist vs Machine Learning Engineer is what the other posters are questioning, but if you're not familiar with the field, its skill level that's the difference. Data scientists look at the data and make inferences, MLE's write the code that does it automatically. DS is just statistics, MLE is statistics and computer science.
AI/ML comes under data science.
Surprised a data scientist would be laid off if TMO is going after AI. The data scientist would be the top of the spear.
Data science is an iffy proposition for a profession right now as once the data is normalized, AI or ML does it quicker, better, longer, and cheaper.
mike sievert talking about ai/ml helping in reducing churn. Why the fu-k is he layoff ds folks.
