Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

The worst/best parts of yesterday

My kids crying when I told them. This has been part of our life’s for a very long time.
The panic and hysteria that was created up until the call and especially when the call split to a different time for some.
The truly talented and amazing people tell me they were also impacted.
All the tears. All the tears.

Best
Clearing out a whole section in my closet.
Being told nothing works after last night so that’s it.
Knowing today I don’t need to wake up to alarm
Deleting work apps from my phone
So many people reaching out from my network to try to place me somewhere
Knowing today I don’t have to log on
Knowing this weekend I don’t need to log on

Post your bests/worsts if you were impacted yesterday.

Your manager lied to you deferring ownership to "Seattle" if by Seattle they meant HQ. These decisions were and are made closer to your direct manager than that. They may not have been the final decision maker, but it was no more than a level or two above your manager. Even though we as leaders don't create the mandate to layoff people, we still have to own it.

ill post my best/worst after one year- i was part of last years culling. my biggest regret was not getting to login to my computer after being told. I've had 2 jobs since- the first one was interesting. It was essentially being busted down 3 levels from my Peers at T-Mobile phone testing the network. I literally went to pick up test phones for this job from the same manager who informed me of my layoff at T-Mobile 3 months earlier. He was very candid about the whole layoff thing ( selected from Seattle with little say/notice for him) and he hated doing it. After realizing i was working for id--ts who were creating reports for my former peers ( that they did not have time to read i'm sure) I quit that job and was able to get on with the help of one of the people who got bumped with me onto another job- much better 100% WFH/10 foot commute making similar money than T-mobile. its contract so could end at any time but for now all is good....good luck . Keep up with those who got let go with you - they might have an opportunity for you.

Best: feeling a sense of relief. Knowing full count, escalations, network tickets, merchandise issues, audit sh-t, and all other things will go to sh-t. Ops will be missed.
Worst: Knowing who I supported will be with out help.

Sharing one's strong emotions shows strength and courage, not weakness. To act as if you're strong because you're not doing so is weak. Also, you're an a--hole. Hope you're laid off.

Crying? Panic and hysteria? What the he-l? I could guess what department you were in. Your weakness will be the end of your professional career. Might as well get that glass pipe now.

All mine are two sides of the same coin. It was so nice to just be cut off immediately and not have to hand anything over, but my former coworkers are going to be screwed trying to deal with the mess. Having two months to not work is going to be nice, but the stress of looking for a new job during that time is going to get heavier and heavier. The severance is decent and could pay for some home improvement, but that’s only if I find a job that pays as well by January. I was already looking for jobs anyway so it’s nice to have this kick in the pants with severance, but I was already looking for jobs and it was grim.

I'm in a group that will likely be noticed next week when Ulf gets back from visiting his home in Sweden. And based upon age and salary will likely be a huge target to get noticed.

My non-work friends have seen the announcements, and I 'm getting email, texts, etc., offering support as this process continues. That's the best for me. That people I care for outside the office care about me. I don't think those in the office give a ratsass about who sits in what seat.

And I don’t mean people losing there jobs, the aftermath of what they do next is the interesting part.

Not withstanding the human element I love watching this sh-t unfold from a logistics perspective. I was cut. So that made the past 24+ hours bearable.

Worst: crying all day at the comments on social media. Telling my family that the company I loved no longer needed my experience. Facing the uncertainty of the future.

Best: knowing my work was appreciated by the people who matter to me most! Knowing I made life long friends! Reminding myself I am capable and strong! Family support and love!

Probably the best thing that could’ve happened!

Best:

Never have to hear about the fake a-s "BEST model of experience"
No longer having to put employees on a PIP for bs reasons. Had to PIP a guy once who missed time due to a heart attack...but not enough time to take a LOA.
Not refreshing my work email hoping my new hires were still performing well.
No longer dealing with the changing expectations, being told by the LIAR that we no longer care about sales in customer care but then having to hold newbies accountable for not getting enough add a lines.

Worst:

I'll miss the people, so much.
The benefits and pay.

That's it.

Best:
No more having to stomach the bullsh-t "leadership" of Jon Freier.
No thoughts of Apple NPI.
No more talk of AI or talk from Gepetto's AI boy Sievert.

Worst:
No more hanging with my good work friends for 40 hours a week.

Worst
Getting THE news that my job may/will be impacted same for the bulk of my team...

Best
Realizing there is a 3-day weekend with the holiday. The stress is so much knowing I'll be out of a job soon and back on a grueling job hunt.
