Drivers too cheap to help themselves?
- make $150,000yr average plus benefits.
- could get permission from the company have air conditioning installed in their truck by a certified local dealership.
- the liability for installation is on the local Ford/Chevy dealership and not the company.
- takes 3 hours average to install for $750.
- company loses fuel expense and repairs but gains driver efficiency due to comfort which picks up speed of deliveries.
- most drivers keep the same truck for years.
A miser and a penny pincher always cheats themselves in the end.
Every truck has to have engine shut off at every package stop. Air conditioning units need time to cycle thru. A nightmare in repairs coming up. They lose money enough by not letting the heating system in the winter complete its run cycle with so many shut offs. Wear and tear for nothing by an office thought out procedure and not a solid mechanical study. They throwaway a lot of good revenue that investors might normally receive.
Most all trucks come with air conditioning at factory , big U requested them taken out before delivery. Check how many years back this was standard procedure. Costs too much in fuel.
New union contract agreement apparently states all new trucks after Jan. 2024 will have a/c, but none of fleet retrofitted. Retofit would cost about $750 + per truck. But drivers will not pay the onetime $750. They should not have too but some people sure would dole out the dough just for safety and comfort.
