Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Hiding the Incident

HR is joining calls to tell people not to do internet searches so it doesn’t draw attention. Really? They should be addressing the problem that caused it and not hide it.

I have heard that he was part of lay offs earlier in 2023 but had located a new position at USAA during his 60 days and started that already.

I don’t think they were being a douche or implying people should harass the family and friends of the deceased. Some people will, but shouldn’t cross those boundaries and you’re right to say that those people should be given space, but I don’t read the post you are responding to as implying that.

I’m guessing you are a grunt-level HR person trying to be responsible about it, but what the OP claims is that there are more suppressive elements also laced in HR’s communication. If you are not complicit, then don’t take it personally. Obviously there are good and bad people in all departments.

@tyk+1omuFOPH you are such a douche. This was a REAL person that died. That person had family, fiends and coworkers. ALL of them are grieving. ALL of them deserve finding out the truth about this tragic incident (not just you), but NONE of them deserves having to deal with malicious rumors about themselves and the person they cared about.

So, demand this incident to be properly investigated, demand USAA's accountability, demand that USAA makes some kind of amends that thing never happens. If you have real info about this, send it to the authorities. That's what you should be doing if you really want to help.

But don't start or feed malicious rumors about this, cause is NOT ok - you are hearting real people here. And that's what everybody means when they say "don't disturb the peace of the deceased and his loved ones".

Long history inside and outside of USAA of media-paranoia. The media-paranoia at USAA is still there from 25 years ago, even all the people that originally created that toxicity have long-since been replaced.

I can tell you every employer in San Antonio knows about it. How can you not? I heard about it from an interview I had Monday afternoon. It's not like we aren't buried in resumes from people trying to bail out of USAA.

We all know about it.

The Streisand effect is where censorship of information ends up having the opposite effect. In essence it is exemplified in the way COVID was handled in the West. The corporate press and medical establishment "authorities" beat to the rhythm of the same drum despite the mounding evidence that suggested COVID wasn't as big of a deal as it was initially supposed, and so on and so forth. The result in 2023 is a large percentage of the population who now do not trust medical establishment authorities. This is painful for the times in which they do give correct advice.

I think this is HR or some leader, but on the off chance you’re “it’s a very, very sad situation” was genuine, I’ll give it a fair answer:

The company is losing billions, when it has ALWAYS been profitable. Under Wayne, generous benefits and a very pro-employee culture is falling apart. USAA is built upon insanely high customer satisfaction, and the company knew that came from shared purpose and high employee satisfaction.

The reason people here blame Wayne, the Board, etc is because this has been a train crash in slow motion and real people are affected. During the stock market crashes, brokers and bankers throw themselves out windows because they feel the hopelessness of their professional/personal situation. Would you assume those deaths should be separated from the most likely cause?

I wouldn’t go so far as accusing Wayne and the Board for having blood on their hands. But cut the cr-p to say this couldn’t have been prevented. The company is failing, and your damage control won’t work here.

I haven't used it, but I think we have pretty good mental health benefits. Not really sure what else the company could have done regarding the mental health of one of its employees. Very, very sad situation.

HR is not about to learn anything.
It would be nice if they did, but they can't.

They have their trolls out trying to shut questions down by saying that disturbs the "peace" of the deceased, essentially manipulating by shame.

HR is about to learn a valuable lesson about the Streisand effect.
