With the push for RA, BOTS and outsourcing I am not surprised. Leadership is misleading with the claims of success. Those that are in the weeds know that all of these things are failing

Overheard Angie Chapmann saying her team was impacted and there would be layoffs on 9/21, LOUDLY TALKING where lots of people could hear.

9/21 = 5,000 layoffs

It DOES seem that the size of the target on your back is directly proportional to the salary you earn. Evil-ance doesn't really seem to care about anything else.

Post from TheLayoff.com
A long time ago my area was eliminated. I helped fill out the RIF forms for the Director until he was RIF'd then the VP. Its a subjective scoring system with only years of service as the objective number. I think it has more to do with salary, and hitting a magic $dollar for reduction than anything.

Hr doesn’t decide who gets laid off it’s usually the director or sVP of the department doing the layoff. If lucky, the director or sVP will ask managers for a list but whoever owns the cost center or reports to the VP decides who it is and it’s usually based on rumor or misconception. At least in IT. Last time one of the big IT department’s sVP decided the whole list with no input from directors or managers. Middle management at this company may su-k but they also have less power than people think. Also very replaceable.

The rebadging of the 2,500 was effective 9/1/23.

Wouldn't mind getting laid off at this point, but would prefer to stay until December. Been here just over a year and I've already had enough. Everything's broken here. Could collect UE for six months.

Layoff culture is not what it used to be. They prefer to scare you off before laying you off, less money involved that way. Not sure where the layoff rumblings are coming from...but they don't have flexibility to do mass layoffs unless your entire dept function is useless. What may have been the layoff culture in Anthem pre-Great Resignation is not the same. Layoffs are most likely manager directed decisions bc they want to tailor the team to their power structure/ocd politics. Keep in mind, for those who get scared into giving a two weeks notice.... They get to retain 90 percent of your work anyways. So layoffs and two week notices are a win win for management. I left anthem recently, had huge influence over a big project and didn't give a two weeks notice. Just literally said, I'm resigning immediately. Key to job security, is being in charge of something so vital that you haven't given away your knowledge. That's it. Always look for a job and always be ready to sc--w the manager bc they will be looking to sc--w you first. Have a job ready and then when they try to pull a layoff card or give you a sh*tty eval, then leave without notice and knowledge transfer. Corporations unfortunately win 99 percent of time, bc Managers form personal relationships with employees to guilt trip them and then make it sound like you have committed a mortal sin if you don't give a two weeks notice. Always build or create something they can't replicate and you will have just as much leverage.

Yearly performance reviews mean nothing. I was laid off with an "exceeds expectations" the previous year. The boss keeps who they want to keep - usually it's their closest friends. Performance and HR have nothing to do with it, it's purely a subjective decision by your immediate manager.

I believe the selection process by HR may be based on the yearly performance reviews.

Was the rebadging of 2500 employees recent or was that the massive RIF that happened in 2020?

You're immediate manager decides who to layoff unless it's a scenario where the entire team gets let go. Many weak managers will say "HR made the decision" because they don't want to be the bad guy.

Your manager usually has huge discretion on who gets laid off although that decision can be made higher up. Also managers themselves can ask their bosses if he/she feels need to reorg team

Don't have to layoff. They just got rid of 2500 by making them IBM employees.

I always wonder how HR select employees to RIF. Does the manager or director gives then who they want to get rid of or is it just random selection?

Parts of elevance health are.in build build mode that it makes it hard for them to layoff people. Just ask yourself if you or others left if the dept would manage and then you'll know the answer to that. Usually layoffs have more to do with your manager's politics than company direction.
