Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

30 minute Business Update call

Just received an invite for Business Update call this afternoon. Almost the entire team is on it minus 3. Could that be the call?

I stand corrected on senior managers not conducting these notifications. I should have known that some orgs are different and clarified that the Director+ approach is in my org. So sorry for your terrible experience. Layoff by WebEx, even if by video, is just wrong. That leader and their boss knew this was coming long ago and their PTO should have been scheduled around this notification. So disappointing to hear this kind of thing. Take care.

Can confirm like @1ibt+1okIBXFR stated.

I got a meeting request at 7:25am PDT last Thursday titled "Org Changes." Thankfully I had planned to log in early for a training call or I would not have even known about the call to lay me off as it was added to my calendar after Mike's email went out (roughly 6:00am my time). No HR person on my call, just my Sr. Manager and she was making the WebEx from her vacation rental (appeared to be a family member walking around in the back) as she took PTO for the week.

Had a great laugh at the sheer stupidity of the experience and was topped off with receiving a TMo project team t-shirt in the mail that afternoon - about the same time my phone notified me that my connection to the Outlook server was no longer signed in.

Senior managers aren't given scripts and aren't delivering layoff news to employees. They aren't under NDA like many Directors and Sr Directors. They're in the middle, left with only the info their bossea have shared, which should be minimal given the NDAs. The only thing close to a script is the notification conversation that directors+ have to deliver to impacted employees. Reason being that if they stray too far from the script, they can inadvertently say things that could expose T-Mobile legally. Leaders are encourage to be human about it and treat people with dignity and respect, but to be concise with the actual notification communication.

SR managers are given a script approved from HR and legal.
They are told to read it with no inflection or emotion.

What kind of tone deaf manager schedules a last minute call with no agenda?

I got canned and only the SM was in the meeting. No HR. 25 minutes. I think length is up to the person doing it.

Strange call. To begin with my SM is an ID 10 T. Call was just them going on and on about how we had a job to do no matter what happens. Said change is coming but no idea what changes are coming and that we “should all be happy for the time and jobs we have in the moment. Keep working like nothing is happening and worry about next steps if something happens” Don’t feel like this was a call that was asked to do but maybe more of a call they made up. Waste of 20 minutes that I could have spent at the bar! So no real info and more uncertainty than before in my mind now. Typical T-Mobile management BS!

False - layoffs happened in February and HR was NOT on those phone calls. Wishing your team safe passage on the call.

Express? Perhaps consolidation of Market Directors. That's the only thing that would make sense. Sr.Mgrs and RDMs all had reapply for their roles just a few short months ago.

With the LOB, an Express MD could absorb leading 10 Sr. Mgrs. He-l, if a TOP 100 Sr. Mgr can lead 10 RSMs and MD could easily lead 10 Sr. Mgrs
