Thread regarding Alteryx layoffs

Why isn’t the sales org industry aligned?

I heard Alteryx used to be industry aligned years ago, is that true? The fact that our sales org is currently aligned by geographic region is asinine. Geography doesn’t drive value for customers. Past industry experience does.

It seems like all successful SaaS companies are aligned based on industry so the sellers can become specialists in that specific industry.

Also, why don’t our corporate strategic objectives align with our comp incentives (with the exception of cloud, but cloud isn’t even close to being fully built)?

Because they are run by a bunch of old school enterprise sales execs who still think the way deals get done are over an expensive steak dinner, slap on the back and an afternoon at the golf course. And this may work just fine if you're selling "must have" enterprise solutions to centralized decision makers, but I think Alteryx is more of a line of business analyst sales motion and viewed as a "nice to have" by the c-suite, who may have never felt the pain of grinding it out type data work.

Yes, it used to be. And AYX was highly successful at penetrating numerous industries because of it.

Unfortunately over the past 3 years this has been 98% gutted, in favor of broad enterprise sales. All of the people with specific industry marketing/demand-gen/sales experience are long gone — either laid off or left a while ago in total frustration.

Cloud is 4-5 years out from any sense of competitive, mature product. That should really be taken off the table for the next 2-3 years until a minimum viable product is in GA.

Meanwhile, the blind will continue to lead the blind.
