Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

Layoff Criteria?

Could you guys provide insights into the specific criteria that were employed for the recent layoffs?

I'm curious to understand the methods by which individuals were chosen for termination.

Was there a particular set of qualifications, performance evaluations, or skill assessments that determined who would be let go?

Additionally, did factors like seniority, job role, or department play a significant role in the selection process?

Gaining clarity on the decision-making process behind the layoffs would be valuable in comprehending the company's approach and its implications for employees.

Lots of HQ Engineering roles in Dallas where the NOC is, the major Distribution Center is in Dallas, and MetroPCS was headquartered in Dallas.

TX became an HQ office because that's where Freier is from. Pretty sure it became official when he got his Pres. title

As someone who has been a decision maker for layoff selections on multiple occasions, what I'm always trying to achieve is to have the strongest possible team with whoever remains. It's that simple. I never consider tenure, salary, work location, legacy Metro, legacy Sprint or any other non-performance/talent related attributes. I can't speak for every director+ individual making these decisions, but our process is designed for this to be the way. Periodt.

Most of it depends on whether your palm is soft or calloused. Grip strength is also a factor.

Hearing system groups will need to be aligned with headquarters; WA, KS and TX , not sure how Texas became a headquarter but assuming convenient for some. I think this is their way to weed out any remaining legacy Sprint employees that have always been remote. They forced vaccinations on remote employees and then proceed to lay them off , nice!

Managers had to do a talent assessment months ago.. they are using those talent assessments as a gauge. Although if anyone is a performance issue they will surely be on the list. The list was created early august so if you suddenly decided to start working harder after the first week of august.. good luck!

That's not entirely true.

The first two rounds of layoffs (for technology) had a performance vector.

At least on my team, all of the underperformers have now been separated, so who knows what the next criteria will be.

I know a lot of teams are not backfilling voluntary separations in the hopes that empty reqs will soften the blow if/when they receive more bad news.

People are so wrong about how these decisions are made. First, they're being made by people who understand your performance. Second, it's not random - not even close. Finally, nobody on here is going to be able to answer your question for all orgs in the company.

All of the above. There's no set formula.

Open Excel, create a new file, In column A make a list of names.
In column B, in a cell next to each name, enter the following formula: =RAND()
Sort but column B.

Select as many names as you want based on the new sort order.

Voila! You are all done...
