Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Remote staff are clearly expendable

Do you know why Wayne's all-hands meeting comment to remote staff about "having the courage to post for hybrid roles and proving you're the right person for the job" was a load of cr-p? Wanna know why that segment of discussion was removed from the recorded version of the meeting? You already know why.

To confirm why, Tamla made a lovely post on Slack yesterday about how remote employees are unable to be considered for hybrid roles, and that execs are "exploring" exceptions for remote employees "when possible and appropriate". Expect that the criteria to be considered for a remote employment exception purposefully will be just as absurd and steep as getting an exception to RTO.

Make no mistake, if you are remote, they want you gone. You are a burden on them and your services are no longer needed, Plain and simple. At least those of us in local offices have temporary career options, even if it's on a sinking ship.

Let's presume that's actually true. What is driving this? Why the sudden demand to go back to office? The real answer, not the big steaming pile they're slinging.

Friendly neighborhood EMG here...soon to come, a mandate for all remote employees to move to an office by January or get lost, no severance. You heard it here first.

I understand that they may want to shift business strategy, but it would be great if they didn't actively and outwardly hate those of us that are remote. It is not our fault that they thought we were all puppies and rainbows during COVID, and then an inconvenient nuisance after WP started tanking the company and money got tighter.

I feel they are on a slippery slope not allowing remote employees to apply for hybrid jobs and maintain their remote status. There are a number of people who are full-time remote based on a disability. So if they do not allow disabled remote to apply for hybrid that would mean they are discriminating against disabled employees. They can also not make a disabled employee reveal their status of being disabled when applying for a job that is also illegal.

My brother is a director and says he has meetings where the occasional topic of discussion amongst managers is centered around how to “coach” out remote workers or get them to convert to hybrid. Suggestions are subtle, but make no mistake, they do not want remote employees on the payroll.

Good luck securing the San Antonio or hub talent you need to not drive this place directly into the ground AGAIN. That is the exact reason all of the regulatory scrutiny started. You pilfered people you had at the ready. You don’t have the talent you need in one geographic area. The rest of the banks and insurance companies will benefit from the remote talent they are driving out. Newsflash- people don’t want to live in Texas.

Its not just remote workers ALL workers are expendable especially in an unethical organization like this. Remote workers are just the start its clear with the 4 day RTO initiative (as they still post jobs as "Hybrid") they are looking to cut down BIGLY on bonuses and pay and get rid of people

Her post was very disappointing. The whole thing was a piece of sh*t in general, but it really kicks remote employees in the nuts. I guess I'll just spend all my time making tierlists in MNT.
