Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Anthem has lay offs but HR focuses on skin color on management call

Are there any managers who just attended the October Manager Forum today? Two HR ladies, introduced themselves with their name and proudly announced their skin color of being white and their preferred pronouns. What is the point of disclosing your skin color? If you want to reduce discrimination focus on associates experience, knowledge, business acumen. Perhaps, managers forum should have been dedicated to discussing how managers can help associates with low moral due to lay offs. Perhaps given us some guidance how to bring focus on work, taking care of our members and providers rather than on color.

Anthem/Elevance Health has become a joke. I am ashamed that I work here.

My parents went to segregated schools. You guys are acting like these issues are from thousands of years ago. The people who lived under and created those oppressive conditions are still alive and running the show. It’s a big deal for some people to arise out of a society that was bent on holding them back at every turn.

If I was or if I get RIFd, day one...I'm going to FOIA request the demographics of the people layed off, and compare it with the demographics of the company prior to layoffs. The when the discrimination is clear...sue them blind.

Why aren’t they announcing their height, weight, hair, eye, color plus the clothes and jewelry they’re wearing? For the visually impaired, of course. Not because they’re virtue signaling.

It's for those listening by phone only, or those visually impaired.

Color should be removed from any conversations or decisions. You treat people for who they are, period. In 2021, Gail RIFd a slew of white males over 50, managers, directors, staff VPs and VPs.

@1vxt+1oWJQLOn May I ask what department you’re in? I ask because I have it on good authority that WFM has said absolutely nothing to any managers about PTO during that time frame.

Today my manager announced that as Jan 1st thru April there would be no pto allowed. Not don’t take a but NONE! Not one single day day unless it is “special circumstance”. But continue going in to the office and of course if you are laid off after the peak season too bad so sad! This is beyond unnecessary, I just don’t have words

I was in a meeting months ago where something like that occurred. A guest speaker was holding the presentation. It was explained to attendees that announcing gender, skin color, etc. of the presenters was being inclusive to vision impaired associates.

I have been working here for 18 years, and never have been so disappointed. Many people have lost their jobs, families are impacted. Employees who have worked for many includes; some 30 years or more. HR and our leaders have lost their focus. Spending money on massage rooms, sleeping pods, basketball courts, the list goes on.
They focus on color and making everyone come to the office, after they shut down buildings. Many folks impacted by the shut down are now considered outside of the 50 miles zone, their salary is now based on Indiana, even though they don't live in Indiana.
I'd rather have my colleagues working than for our company foolishly spend money. Where are the priorities of this company?

How can a company have all associates meetings and not even mention the layoffs. They rebranded Anthem to Elevance and have built out offices sparing no expense in order to revitalize downtown. All the while laying off thousands of people. I too used to be proud to work for this company. Not anymore. So sad.

Believe it or not .. this company used to be a great place to work for and everybody wanted to come here. This place was a haven and was run like a family business with employees properly recognized and appreciated for their hard work. Those days have long been gone and now this place is a he-l hole where associates are just miserable and treated like cattle where anytime they can be axed. So sad ….
