Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

How were you notified?

I’m green. It is hard to concentrate on work when I hear of another lay off daily. What should I expect —- an HR invite or a mass email? Only on Thursdays? thx

I was not let go this time, but I was told by others that they were invited to a random meeting that morning with HR and several other impacted employees and were given the speech about business needs and then were given some details about when their last day would be and severance and also about applying for other internal positions. And then they met with their direct managers and directors (assuming they also weren't let go).

The morale of the story is, don't make any extra efforts around here. The'll let you go if you go into the office and they'll let you go if you don't. Could you imagine the type of gamble you would have to take to relocate for this company?

As many have said, it is an impromptu invite from your manager. For general layoffs/RIFs, these happen the Thursday of a non-pay week. There can be cases where a entire group gets an impromptu invite and all are notified at the same time. This is less common.

There is another case where jobs are farmed out to another company. I only know of cases of IT jobs being farmed out to IBM. In those cases, all the folks affected are invited to a meeting and notified. As to what happens in the case of farming out varies each time.

I was also notified on a Thursday several years ago. It was a call with my manager and hr rep. Later my manager let me know he was happy w my performance, couldn’t say anything during call with hr. If you are new to company you are probably safe. It’s usually longer term employees.

If you want to ensure a call with co-worker is private, call via personal cell phones. Anything on company equipment is monitored.

Not sure if anyone can share the documents without being in breech of the NDA . But I’m sure there is enough information in the comments on the threads ! It’s sad and we are ALL scared and worried about job security . To many rumors and the company has told us nothing we are in the dark wondering am I next to get axed

I am a journalist interested in covering this. Would someone here be willing to share their documents with me? And/or have you all seen any documentation re: how many people to be laid off? The company has stonewalled me. (However, earnings call should be coming up....)

Thursday for me. 1:1 scheduled with my bosses boss (a VP) on the Monday of that week. We worked in the same office. There was no context. Typically he'd walk down the hall, shoot me a note, or just call me when he needed something. So, I pretty much knew what this was (since my boss was out in a previous RIF.) And, on that Thursday call, it was the VP along with HR. A two minute generic, personally insulting statement from someone I worked with in a small office for many years -- kind of sh**y. Then he hung up and I was left with HR who then sent the separation package. It was a 9:30 or 10am call and they said you can take the day off - which I promptly did. At the end of the day, I'm much less stressed now, happier, and earning more and have a voice. Go to a smaller company. Work with better people. Take care of yourself.

It happened to my department a couple years ago. There were so many good hard working people let go. They did not care. So cold and greedy. I went back for a short time, then left. I am at another company and it was the best thing I did. They care and I am much happier.
