I miss being ALLOWED to have a wholistic mentality. Thank God we were cross-trained. Learning about other departments was valuable and vital to our overall success. It helped to build rapport between co-workers and cultivated positive feelings of accomplishment when you reached goals and hit DEADLINES together. THAT boosts morale.
When we knew we wouldn’t be able to hit a deadline, we PROACTIVELY gathered ALL barriers and presented them to upper management. Here is the problem, this is who we consulted with, and here is our barrier. Barriers were BROKEN because they KNEW what to do. We overcame said barriers together, documented processes, COMMUNICATED where said processes would be stored so everyone could access them, and believe it or not, others actually read those emails (and even saved them for easy reference). We weren’t chasing our tails, or wondering if we knew or if we didn’t know, or assuming we knew. We nailed down until it was CLEAR for EVERYONE. There was no going along if it wasn’t understood. We worked as a real team. Everyone brought value.
Most of us respected each other. We didn’t disregard anyone who thought differently. We listened to understand (not to ridicule or belittle). We worked together with passion and purpose, and we were successful.
All of the mental strain, confusion, and emotional distress experienced here is NOT worth it. Your health is more important. This layoff is a blessing!
If I presented to you a book (wholistic) but you can only comprehend one chapter (silo). What is that book report going to look like when you write it? Embrace knowledge that others have. Don’t allow it to make you feel vulnerable. You’re one CenTEAM, right? Don’t be a weakling. 😜 And don’t disregard it simply because you DON’T know or weren’t aware. If you were competent, you would understand that “getting in the weeds” or should I say THE DETAILS is a part of the job when you want it done RIGHT. But I get it. You don’t have the machete.
But you’ve got the nepotism. Good old nepotism.
We shall watch from the bench sipping on our severance while everything goes up in flames. Perhaps you won’t see those flames, but God bless who it’s passed on to. Then, and only then, will the entire story in the book be told. The REAL claims 😂 will tell the story. You’ll have a wholistic view then. Well, that’s if you ever get there. 🤷♂️
I’ve watched people who didn’t want to listen intently catch on months later of things that were called out. The positive: At least you’re finally learning. I tried telling so many stories so long ago, but you only wanted to focus on one chapter. Good luck!
