Stretched thin but more work

Any one else experiencing this? My team is stretched thing big time but they are increasing the workload. It’s not sustainable and I’m stuck right in the middle as a middle manager with no real power! I don’t know what to do any more!!

I was laid off in August. I have applied for multiple roles, mostly positions that I am over qualified for! Not one call back or interview. Each one is a canned response.
I am also 62 years old so it is obvious what they are doing! It's disappointing as I want to decide when I can retire, not UHC! They hired back a pharmacist who was dead weight, but a female who checked boxes for diversity!

To the poster that described his boss is she a minority? This company gives a HUGE pass to minorities for inappropriate behavior and I'm shocked they don't have huge lawsuites coming for them.
DEI is not working for them.

All three of us left in my group are doing the work of 2 people. Our boss just got promoted to a director after taking 40 days of PTO this year (to date), not showing up online until noon some days, canceling our weekly team meetings at the last minute almost every single weekend, bailing on meetings at the last minute where her presence and input was critical, never being available for questions, does not like to be pinged on Teams…once I ended up in a meeting with VPs and directors like a deer in headlights without a clue what to say or do other than just BS my way through it as best I could. She just didn’t show, never even declined the meeting. But the as--s she kisses and bamboozles apparently love her. I know for a fact that I’m on the chopping block just based on some passive aggressive comments made in 1:1 meetings (when she bothers to actually show up for them instead of bailing 10 minutes beforehand). It boggles the mind, truly. One of our critical resources who has been with the company 23 years and who is currently doing the jobs of 2-3 people is looking for a job entirely outside the company. They are going to be SO screwed if she does. After all, who will do the director’s job for her so she can sleep till noon and take her 8th week-long vacation of the year. I wish I was kidding, all of the above is 100% accurate and not embellished. Good luck with all that, and best wishes to all of you. I absolutely get it. Horror show of galactic proportions.

Behavioral Health is like that too. They squeeze every dime out of their work force. You are correct, you have no power and can't change things. It's time to find another job.

Keep doing your best. The people you manage feel it too. Likely, they stay at it because of you. UHC is lucky to have you.
