Thread regarding Riverbed Technology Inc. layoffs

Work/life balance

My work/life balance has completely disappeared. I'm getting more and more work which I'm expected to finish by a certain date, while nobody asks if it's even possible or not. I have a feeling this is intentional. Riverbed wants to force us to leave to avoid paying severance. Or am I just being paranoid?

Of course it’s intentional. This is not the first or last time a company employs this tactic. When a company gets taken over by new investors, this is par for the course.

200% aligned, this is the new trend at Riverbed. Not showing any respect for your past commitments and the impact of last years multiple stupid management decision. Just trying to force people to leave without severance using harassment and damaging their work/life balance.
Not a company to join anymore!

@kmd I think you're right about that. After all, companies are like viruses - they must try to survive at any cost.

@1asy - yes I'm thankful I was laid off in June though in retrospect I wish I had been laid off in 2015.

@kmd - they hit a lot of senior people in June - I was pre-IPO and other colleagues in my department were largely the ones here the longest, from the '00's or just after. Basically the brains and those with institutional knowledge.

take the money and move on from a toxic dying hellscape…. that's what I did. In hindsight it was the best thing that could have happened to me.

the game may very well be to put people on a performance plan and either fire them or force to quit before doing a layoff. Vector (“oh no we won’t be laying off any more people”) seems like a nasty bunch. Don’t be in denial. Don’t be naive. Assume the worst and get your contingency plans in order. Freshen up that resume. Start reaching out to your networks. Don’t be a victim.

Would not be a surprise. Prediction: layoffs in December if not before. Small severance. They will go after the more expensive (senior) people who are likely US based. “Reorganization “ will Replace them with “junior” cheap folks in Eastern Europe/Israel or India. Seems illegal and ageist but what are you going to do. Not sign the papers? Get a lawyer? Or just take the money and move on from a toxic dying hellscape….
