Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Layoff Week

Has anyone gotten the dreaded email/phone call? If you have and feel comfortable sharing, what team/department are you?
My team is so scared, and I know that has to be universal across the company at this point. I've seen people say they are targeting Wellcare employees and people under Richard Chong.

I was given the ol heave ho....i had a feeling I was on the chopping block when the layoff was leaked. I am pretty sure my title played a part as the director, who came on after a centene director left, never wanted someone with my title on the team. He had nothing to fire me for, couldnt change title without a fight, so next best thing was the layoff.

I am part of the August layoff. You must work through your last work day listed to get your severance. If you resign before the last work day you will not get any severance. You will get an invite for LHH outplacement assistance. We had 3 different ones, attend them ALL. I did and I learned something new with each one about my severance. Please attend as they go over all the information that you must do to get the severance package, this is NOT just for job assistance, this will guide you through everything. You do not get paperwork the last day instead In workday, you will receive separate tasks - notification of layoff which gives you how many weeks of pay, cobra and outsourced job assistance, personal information update, general overview of what is required to receive severance. Send this to your personal email and print out two copies and read it thoroughly.
After you are severed with the company, Centene will send you an email to your personal email an agreement to read, sign, and return, you will have a specific time frame to do this in, then once received and processed you will get any severance pay. My last day is this Friday.

my manager said I would not get to view the Severance agreement until after my last day. So my last day is December. Unless I find another job sooner. She said I would still get the severance package if I find another job but because I don’t get to see the agreement until my last day…who knows

So you get an official notice 30 days before 12/1. That will have severance information in it. You get your severance paperwork on your last day to sign and return.
Something to note- which su-ks.. you have to stay until 12/1 to get severance- and since the final date is 12/8 (when you get your last check), you cannot start a new job until 12/9. If you do, you do not get your severance.
I was part of a lay off last year and this is what was explained to me.

Received the TEAMS invite at 2:15 for a 2:30 meeting. Only thing I don’t understand is, my manager said I would not get to view the Severance agreement until after my last day. So my last day is December. Unless I find another job sooner. She said I would still get the severance package if I find another job but because I don’t get to see the agreement until my last day…who knows

Also part of Fidelis (NY market), also got meeting invite from manager (30 mins prior) with immediate PL in attendance, but WITHOUT HR on the call (which I found odd). I hope we're all able to bounce back quickly. Do your bare minimum to ride it out until you can get your severance, and update your resume/LinkedIn/networks in the meantime!

My heart sincerely goes out to those of you who have been impacted. I was laid off during a previous ‘round’ several years back during Covid, and let me first say I personally know how you are feeling … it is completely eviscerating. The only piece(s) of advice I can give you are this:

It’s okay to feel numb; it’s okay to be blindingly angry; it’s okay to be in shock; it’s okay to cry … but, it is NOT okay to be unprofessional. It is NOT okay to lash out at leadership and/or HR. As much as you want to, it is also NOT okay for you to take to social media and talk negatively about the company. And, finally, it is NOT okay stop being productive (as hard as that sounds). Now, let me explain …

IF you were fortunate enough to receive a severance package, you need to understand Centene will be watching and listening and is looking for ANY reason to not pay you that money. Don’t give them that satisfaction. Your severance will be paid out once you complete your ‘agreed upon’ LAST day of employment (and that’s only if you haven’t already been rehired in the organization, basically meaning if you have another Centene job lined up, you get no severance. If you When you sign your severance package paperwork, you are essentially agreeing to conduct yourself in a professional manner, continue to transition your duties accordingly and leave with a pep in your step … and if you don’t, you forfeit your right to a severance. They can terminate your agreement and employment for ANY cause.

Also, pay attention to the fine print in those severance packages — you may wind up having to give back a certain amount of monies paid out in the event you land a job back at Centene within a certain timeframe. Read your agreement, and read it again … and again … and again, no matter how depressing it seems. Understand the options and programs at your disposal and use them.

And finally network! Don’t be shy — reach out to EVERYONE, anyone — let them know you’ve been impacted and see if there’s a spot for you on their team; that is if you even want to continue working for Centene. Remember, layoffs happen everywhere, at any time, usually in a way that completely blindsides everyone.

Hold your head up; this is just a small part of the universe and you WILL get through this. ♥️

For the people who have gotten the meeting invite - "Check in - please prioritize" - who has the meeting request been from? Your supervisor?

Received meeting notice titled what a previous poster stated, “checking in - Please prioritize”. Last day 12/1 but they expect me to keep working until then. I need a job so I’ll be looking for one during my 8 hour shift.

He is the senior VP of business operations. Under him are claims operations, customer experience, operations and systems integration, member and provider services.... damn near everything so not super helpful to say people under him are in the danger zone
