Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

More layoffs at OpenText

OpenText/MicroFocus are doing more layoffs this week.

I don’t have any specifics like numbers, percentage, or which areas.

Just hearing from numerous coworkers and seeing people fall off the orgchart in Teams.

800 total let go. A lot of virtual workers let go. Hmmm, wonder why!

I got 10 weeks. Worked there 30 years. This came out of the blue. All I can say is that for all the critical systems I was over, nobody else has any experience maintaining them. They are screwed. They better not call me when there are problems. What's funny is I already know who they are going to hire to replace me even though they said that my role was no longer needed.

Same scenario. A meeting appeared on my Outlook calendar right after lunch. Joi.ed the meeting with Director and HR person. Very skimpy severance. Three weeks of pay after 4 years of hard work is really a kick in the butt. Alpharetta

The severance package I received is one week more than the minimum required by Ontario law.

Reading through Ontario law, if they lay off more than 10 percent of the work staff for a site, they have to give much bigger packages. I find it interesting that they laid off 8 percent earlier this year and have waited just long enough to avoid the requirements for larger payouts with the second round.

I was laid off from OpenText, Waterloo (Canada), and I'm curious to know what other people's severance packages were like. If you're comfortable sharing, please comment below with your tenure at OpenText Canada, and a general range of your severance package (e.g., 2-4 weeks, 4-6 weeks, etc.).

I got laid off today, worked for over 2 years here( Canada location). No notice was given just a teams meeting from director and HR. Offered a very stingy severance package, good riddance though. Some key points: Poor leadership, mismanaged projects and over burdened employees expected to work on weekends with a fear of losing job.

No notice. Had a Teams appointment added to my calendar Sunday evening. Axe dropped Monday morning. Pitiful severance. Good riddance. I have never worked in such a top-down org before. SVPs have no competence. Everything has to come from the great leader MB himself.

Canada is also affected. How cruel to hire 400 salespeople that will get bonuses and laying off hard working, single income people. I do not believe it is based on compensation. There was no notice and loyal employees got treated as thieves. This is appalling!

Premium Support Security Engineer. Monday was a merger day and I was told it wasn't performance based.

Can confirm they have started in support today.
Looks to be based on how much the employee is paid rather than performance.

Yes, right on federal level and 50 employees, if in California. But I don't know yet how many were laid-off.

And they gave a short notice. Seems like violation of WARN Act
