Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Does WARN Act Even apply

I've seen some people mention it but from what I can see either 500 employees from a single site have to be laid off, or 50 employees AND over 33% of that single site.

So for a small state or a hub office that is small the layoff could possibly not go over these numbers and trigger the WARN Act.

Anthem has been doing their layoffs like this for at least 8 years plus. This is how they also keep it out of public eye and newspapers. And as noted above with payments, the WARN act isn’t an issue.

They are getting rid of management and higher Confirmed managers, directors, and at least one Carelon VP.

Its not a severance. It’s one extra mo pay plus 1.5 weeks for every year worked. Many companies give 3-6mo salaries.

WARN only kicks in if the term is <60 days notice without severance. Anthem has given 30 days notice with severance, so it's unfortunately irrelevant.88

Gail could take a pay cut and request all managers do it as well OR they could get rid of some directors and managers. There is so much leadership no one even knows who they are directing or managing. This company has become another UHG.

Even if all that is true. It's quite dirty to scatter thousands of RIFs across the country to avoid a 60 day notice. So many were over 50 years old. 6 months to find work or be destitute, it's not enough. The company could have reduced C suite bonuses and requested all to take 5% reduced salary. Save jobs. Also why not start with voluntary layoffs. Then people who can afford it choose to leave. That reduces the number of people impacted by this.
