Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

I wouldn't have an issue with layoffs

I really wouldn't have an issue with layoffs if for once, the management decided to show the door to people who deserve it. There are plenty of those who don't do their jobs properly and who only get ahead by kissing the right behind. It's a sad state of things when the best performers can't feel safe from layoffs.

There are some in leadership who use RIFs as personal we-pons; it isn’t supposed to happen but those of us who have been here for years have seen it happen time and time again to great employees so it’s not just those who ‘aren’t doing this or that” there are some in leadership positions who landed them through nepotism and favoritism; again, if you know then you know. Many in those positions are the last people who would ever deserve them. It’s sad but it happens, OFTEN

I really wish it was at manager discretion, we as managers and even most directors are not being involved in the choices for who is being let go.

Yeah 10k employees lose their jobs and the company made 2.6 billion in profit alone last quarter. I have a problem with it.

I got 150% AIP last year. My project received an award in 2021. I was made to lead few new engagements this and for next year. Still the one got RIF. I know few people who need constant spoon feeding are safe. Even my manager told that it couldn’t be based on performance. Who knows how people sitting up in the ladder looks at you.

I was not impacted. I think I am a high performer. But who knows the way the wind blows in this place. Is no feedback good? Some people who got cut were patted on the back all the way out and bottom dwelling trolls have been here for years!

Totally agree. As a manager having had to RIF people before, I had to go through a whole process to “rank” people. I worked with them every day- I would be the best one to determine that, right?? I’ve spoken to a couple managers who were not even informed before the call who was staying and who was going. A lot of these decisions were made really high up which says all they were looking at were numbers on spreadsheets and bottom lines. Also there are far too many leaders totally disengaged from their teams, but that’s a separate rant lol.
