Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Older employees will be targeted once again

Mark my words. I wouldn't be too worried if I was new. We all know what this is all about. This will be another culling of older employees. Those of us who make more because we earned it over the years through hard work and dedication and now have a target on our backs as a thank you.

I've been there almost 4 years. Work in the call center 3 LOB and make 25 / hr. Should I be worried?

They do pick mostly older workers, but then pick a random young guy so they can't get caught.
They also make you sign away your right to sue, to get any severance package. It is worded so carefully to protect Centene. Their lawyers are old hat at it. Discrimination suits are hard to win.

My Labor Law attorney told me that the last mass layoffs were discriminatory (ageism, gender, and disabled workers), yet it would cost my entire severance package to pay attorney fees. And in my state it’s difficult to prove. One can’t fight a multi billion dollar corporation. I’m sorry for all those affected and undeserving. Unionize!

Yep. I was let go years ago. Had the opportunity to come back. Easy NO.

Isn't that age discrimination? Which is illegal?

They will balance that with just enough younger people. Nothing else might make sense about who is laid off but HR will keep track of age/race/gender/etc ratios to avoid lawsuits.

I will never work for another corporation that doesn't have a union again!

You shouldn't work hard and be dedicated. It's a scam

Never have blind loyalty to your employer. At the end of the day, no matter the corporation, you will always be just a number.

It s not necessarily about age.. it s also length of employment despite age. You can have someone under 50 that has been with company for 10 + years targeted because they earned a higher then average salary through the years
