Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Reward excellence

Seagate's current approach has been to do a pay cut regardless of performance, based on level (effecting higher level employees), in the hopes that a smaller layoff could result. I think it's time Seagate change strategy and cut low performers and reward the few employees who are carrying the company. I think a deeper cut will ultimately be required based on market outlook in 2024, and the only way Seagate survives this is to retain high performers (which requires $$$).

Spreading the financial burden through evenly distributed pay cuts has resulted in attrition of key contributors.

This whole thread is pointless. It seems to me like employees are turning on each other over the scraps left over from the masters table. Management have made the decision to support the dividend with debt, squeezing employees, and everything else they can squeeze. Ki-ling yourself with excessive workload will not be rewarded or the rewards will not be worth the extra effort, 20% extra work for 1% more. You are literally fighting for a slightly better seat on a sinking ship while the captain is partying it up as his lifeboat is being prepared.

Would it not be lovely to do a 2 hour champagne-brunch with family and bill it to the company. Perks of being in sales!

What’s that old adage “a day late and a dollar short” or maybe “rearranging deck furniture on a sinking ship” anyway why turn on your fellow workers. Focus on the hedge fund doormat’s that got us into this mess. Maybe we can get our Irish Teammates to give us some better adages, no one Is better at a turn of phase than The Irish! Good luck fellow Gaters, what’s left of us anyway.

So who are the top performers in LCO..
As far as I know there is no one.

First layoffs need to be facilities (SSDC) who no longer contribute to the bottom line. There shouldn't be talk of separating performers until they deal with facilities that are only supported by the local politics.

reward the few employees who are carrying the company.

They have been this whole time.

Top performers are getting rewarded. They just don't let the low performers know.

Let me restate what the author said: The high performers are the only ones doing meaningful work. They should get the majority of the rewards. Everyone else is expendable and should only get minimal improvements in compensation.

This is a nice way of implementing a caste system.

How about the Maxtor way? Not select the best but just keep the Seagater and lay-off the rest based on location? This time within Seagate? I am a former Maxtor employee

Great! Then there should be no reason to work more than 8 hours a day in my opinion. I get tons of quality work done in 8 hours a day.

Sure there are times I'll put in some overtime, but most weeks it's 40 hours for me.

@yof+1oNp1PJF, I don’t work 24X7 I have a better work life balance. I get paid for doing good meaningful work which has future.
At the same time I don’t cry on others making more than me..everyone is paid based on their work/scope/future of work and future of company

I dot have time to shut around here

I prefer a good work life balance and so does my team. But, you do you and work 24/7 if you love corporations and money so much.

The best thing to do to save the company, is to shutdown LCO and invest somewhere where people work with dedication and less arrogance and more collaboration

Why would anyone work past 5pm if you don't need to? I work my 8 hours then I'm done.
