Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

BREAKING - Centene Poised for Layoffs Next Week, Documents Reveal

A round of layoffs at St. Louis, Mo .-based Centene is set for Oct. 2 to Oct. 5. The plans are detailed in a 13-page set of confidential HR documents entitled “Supporting December Transitions” obtained by Health Payer Specialist. The last day of work for the fired brigade will be Dec. 8, 2023, the HR documents say.

The instructions in the HR documents offer a “notification meeting script” for those due to lose their jobs, one that suggests the number of firings will be large enough to have an impact on Centene’s bottom line.

In one-on-one meetings with employees who will be fired, the HR workers are instructed to say, “Thank you for meeting with me today. Over the last 18 months Centene has been actively working on its Value Creation Plan. . . We are facing headwinds related to the [Medicaid] redetermination process and the impact of Medicare Advantage Star Ratings.”

The script continues, “that unfortunately results in the elimination of your position. Your termination date will be Dec. 8, 2023.”

In the HR documents, the targeted workers are told they have 45 days from termination to sign or refuse to sign an agreement outlining the terms of severance. Workers will get health coverage and other benefits through Dec. 31, 2023.

The HR documents also include a “save the date” notice telling the HR workers of sessions set for Sept. 27 and 28 on “managing employee reactions” to learning they are losing their jobs.

One directive in the documents says the managers will learn to recognize and deal with the signs of shock, defined as when the worker appears “quiet, tearful, sad, and unresponsive.” Another learning module will tell the managers how to deal with worker anger, seen when a soon-to-be former employee “raises voice, holds aggressive posture, becomes argumentative.”

Still others will likely be in denial, seen when the worker “appears confused, avoiding eye contact.” Far easier for the managers will be those with an air of resignation, one who “appears calm, lacking in emotion.”

The training sessions are meant to make it easier on managers as well as the employees being terminated.

The unlucky employees “will exit the organization with respect, care, and concern,” the directives promise.

Centene did not respond to requests to discuss the pending layoffs.

I can't breathe. I have a one-to-one schedule for this afternoon. I can't remember how long this has been scheduled but still I haven't been able to breathe in the past week. I just keep waiting for our little priority message to pop up. Sick

Wouldn’t the PL let their team know by now if they were laid off? I’m assuming there would be a reorg announcement or something.

I haven’t had a full night of sleep in a lonnnnng time and no sleep since Thursday . I feel this is a nightmare either way and need to probably change paths all together .
Those left behind are already burnt the F out and will now be doing 4x the work they are already behind on.

Great more nightmares and sh---y sleep tonight.. as if America is not hard enough to live in as it is.. no Jobs are hiring.

Based on the documents that were leaked the layoffs are through today. I’ve seen some posts saying Friday. Is there alternate information where you’ve heard this from? Not attempting to be confrontational just really hoping today is the last day.

Directors and upper management were laid off yesterday and they are working until 12/1

Interesting. Maybe it’s just people leaders. Either way, I was just explaining why some people might be gone sooner than others.

Defending the autistic by naming two thieving sociopaths. One is a megalomaniac and the other would be if he had the brains, but doesn't.

No thanks, I don't claim those guys.

Hmmmm.....People leaders and managements final day of work is the day they are told they’ve been terminated. I have that on good authority. My team gained 21 people in a day.

It is noticable that when you attribute some responsibility of this layoff to the CEO, which in my opinion has a lot to do with it , or when someone call Sarah the poet, which to my understanding is something that she claimed herself to be in an internet article. There are a few people running around to downvote or say otherwise, a bit rare.

That's insulting to autistics. Have some decorum. You clearly don't know anyone That's autistic personally and it shows.

This. Thank you!! I am not easily left without words, but that one stopped me in my tracks…less than able?

Bill Gates and Elon Musk are autistic-I’d be honored to work along side them. They’re much more able bodied/minded than the majority of people I’ve come in contact with.

Sorry, I keep adding onto this. But there’s zero benefit to them to give you “gotcha” paperwork towards your final weeks. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it seems unlikely. Terminating us is lining their pockets tenfold alone.

People leaders and managements final day of work is the day they are told they’ve been terminated. I have that on good authority. My team gained 21 people in a day.

It’s likely that they are keeping non-management folks on until December for teams to acclimate, to keep production moving, and to evaluate who needs to go next.

Also: none of this information is a secret. You are allowed to tell your coworkers that you have been terminated, you are allowed to talk about it. And MOST importantly, if you want the nitty gritty details, you are allowed to call your HR person and ask questions. You literally are allowed to do that. It’s not a secret.

Laid off person here.

  • you will receive a letter of separation. Containing information on job placement services, a legally binding document. You have 45 days to sign off. 3 pages.
  • you will receive a severance package, a legally binding document, containing information about your lump sum payment, information about cobra, information about your 401k. You have 45 days to sign off. 17 pages. It sounds like a lot, but it’s a lot of corporate jargon and insurance resources.
  • My last day of work is December 1st. I will not clock back in after December 1st. December 8th is when you are no longer considered a Centene employee. The week of December 1st I will get more information on how to return my laptop.
  • You can use the remainder of your vacation and sick time. I personally got 6 weeks of severance pay that I will receive in a lump sum. I’ve been with the company for 4 years, I am not sure if the number of weeks you get paid will vary.
  • There are no specific terms of the remainder of your employment, there is no NDA. You sign your separation notice and severance package within 45 days of the day you were laid off. You do not receive your separation notice later. You get your paperwork the day they tell you you’re terminated.

Unless you are willing to out yourself as an HR person, or you have been laid off by Centene during the rounds before this: stop speculating, stop scaring people. We’re all scared enough.

Centene is a joke I had a good job but came to work from home gave up a good job with job security to come to being let go what a freaking joke. I should have done my research but to thrill too work from home never again. I see why Kaiser is striking more unions in the healthcare industry. And want us to work to get them over open enrollment lol joke

When you say, you know there are people who act on behalf of Centene, and that is it's CEO , Sarah the poet , calling as it is, you will see a few of her spies jumping around when you say the poet, that is her official nickname, but to your point, they say they care, but they only care to the extent it benefits them, Sarah,.Drew and few other that show there on the company portal, the care a rat a-s about the member, the employees, they only care about their pocket book, their perks of flying private jets, that might not be what they say, but that is what it is, this new CEO is one of the worst, she doesn't even make an effort to connect with people, to show some empathy and humility, she acts in a way as if she wants to show you she is much better, she made it and you are an id--t, it is super hard to work in an organization like that

We often talk about doing what is best for the well-being of our members. Does Centene care about the well-being of their employees? The people that remain will have to take on more work from the people who are leaving. Some groups are already having trouble keeping up. I know people who often work into the evening hours or weekends. Now we have to do even more. What are Centene's plans to keep the people who are left from burning out and leaving too?

It would appear that any information given here is just as useful as the crickets that our CEO gave us. Meaning unless you out yourself as an actual HR rep that is holding these meetings and laying people off maybe just keep the information to yourself? I mean really? Some are saying they got their separation agreements - others are saying no - some are saying they got NDAs some saying no - some saying physical date of actual working 12/1 - others saying they are paying you to not come in until 12/1 and then severance will kick in. Thanks but no thanks I will figure it out with my attorney if & when they lay me off. This is worse than X and every place else.

Ok. Allow me to clarify:

The SPECIFIC TERMS of your severance package are contained in the GENERAL RELEASE AGREEMENT to be provided to you upon your separation. No one should have received this legally binding document as of yet (if you are part of this wave—last working day 12/1).

🚨🚨🚨Please pay attention!!!🚨🚨🚨

You will be provided with the Release via electronic distribution within a week of your separation date. The Release is an important legal document which details certain rights and claims to be released, which you should review carefully and consult with an attorney, if you choose, before signing it.

THIS is the document you and/or your attorney carefully review and look for any federally protected rights potentially being violated and opportunities to potentially negotiate.

Has anyone whose last working day is 12/1 received their official Release? I haven’t.

If you live in Missouri, look for jobs within the State Government, corrections, mental health, etc....

They offer bariatric surgery coverage.

I am not sure if this applies to everyone getting laid off but someone I know that got laid off yesterday doesn’t have to work anymore. Their official termination date is Dec 1st but actual last day of work was yesterday. That person gets paid like normal pay until Dec 8th then severance package kicks in.

I just got told I'm safe but I CANNOT go through another round of this. My mental health is cr-p, my production numbers took a nosedive off a cliff and my team lead is now my PL's bulldog, quickly shutting down any talk about how stressed we all are as "unprofessional" and "disrespectful." Problem is, I need the bariatric (weight loss surgery) coverage in our health insurance due to complications. If anyone knows of any openings for jobs that have bariatric coverage, please tag me.

@8rzc+1oNUjeJa "no idea how they chose"

In my experience, it's up to the PL to choose who, and they use whatever criteria they want.

I watched as a Director targetted two individuals they simply didn't like and when RIF time came around they were gone immediately, despite being quite critical for the team. And there were two people who were very problematic who should have been let go who weren't.

It's about who you know and who likes you.

Layoffs for BTS are done as of yesterday afternoon as far as I know. A Sr Executive stated that everyone in BTS would know by EOD Tuesday.

Just get ready for the next two waves in the coming months.

Since this layoff was "leaked" .... whoever is responsible for that, thank you.... more so please keep leaking. If there are truly more months of layoffs coming, I think we should all demand transparency. (not the passive comments made in townhall) that was not definite just throwing that out there. The amount of anxiety this has caused, the mental instability to all or most employees is not OK!!!! Talk about caring for our mental health..... I will be the first to say, no sleep, eating is either minimal or emotional, urge to drink adult beverages when I am not a regular drinker is A HEAVY contender. I only wish I could get some anxiety medication, but with the uncertainty of whether I will have health insurance to continue any such therapy, is it worth shoveling out this huge deductible. at the end of the year ... Even if you did not get a call the past 3 days, do NOT get comfortable. Do NOT trust anyone telling you "you are safe". Start planning for the worst now.

Where’s that pulse survey that came about this time last year? Now would be a great time to allow employees to speak up!

It was released on 10/4 last year. So why not this year ?

My PL reached out to everyone on our team today individually just to check in on our mental state. She did mention our positions aren't being effected but that future layoffs are coming and to be ready!!!!!!!! I'm relieved and concerned at the same time. What is happening to Centene? I think it's time I start looking elsewhere
