Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

BREAKING - Centene Poised for Layoffs Next Week, Documents Reveal

A round of layoffs at St. Louis, Mo .-based Centene is set for Oct. 2 to Oct. 5. The plans are detailed in a 13-page set of confidential HR documents entitled “Supporting December Transitions” obtained by Health Payer Specialist. The last day of work for the fired brigade will be Dec. 8, 2023, the HR documents say.

The instructions in the HR documents offer a “notification meeting script” for those due to lose their jobs, one that suggests the number of firings will be large enough to have an impact on Centene’s bottom line.

In one-on-one meetings with employees who will be fired, the HR workers are instructed to say, “Thank you for meeting with me today. Over the last 18 months Centene has been actively working on its Value Creation Plan. . . We are facing headwinds related to the [Medicaid] redetermination process and the impact of Medicare Advantage Star Ratings.”

The script continues, “that unfortunately results in the elimination of your position. Your termination date will be Dec. 8, 2023.”

In the HR documents, the targeted workers are told they have 45 days from termination to sign or refuse to sign an agreement outlining the terms of severance. Workers will get health coverage and other benefits through Dec. 31, 2023.

The HR documents also include a “save the date” notice telling the HR workers of sessions set for Sept. 27 and 28 on “managing employee reactions” to learning they are losing their jobs.

One directive in the documents says the managers will learn to recognize and deal with the signs of shock, defined as when the worker appears “quiet, tearful, sad, and unresponsive.” Another learning module will tell the managers how to deal with worker anger, seen when a soon-to-be former employee “raises voice, holds aggressive posture, becomes argumentative.”

Still others will likely be in denial, seen when the worker “appears confused, avoiding eye contact.” Far easier for the managers will be those with an air of resignation, one who “appears calm, lacking in emotion.”

The training sessions are meant to make it easier on managers as well as the employees being terminated.

The unlucky employees “will exit the organization with respect, care, and concern,” the directives promise.

Centene did not respond to requests to discuss the pending layoffs.

Not only did they disable the chat, they required authentication to join.

I don’t know about chat, but authenticated connections were not required in the past.

Ok not too sure if i can say 100% truth. This came from upper leadership that attended leadership summit that they spoke about recent layoffs in the markets. While in that meeting the infamous email came out and all were shocked. However insider scoop is that Cali and Oregon was or is being hit hard as well as MHN since Centene has our own BH department. In addition this will affect specific markets. That's what I have just received as information.

They are absolutely not going to tell you who is being laid off in the town hall. They will either send an email on the 2nd or keep up with their spectacular track record and make the PL do their dirty work for them by conducting 1x1s to notify - thereby making the PL the bad guys. Kinda like the Covid vaccine shitshow they put on. They are merely trying to do damage control nothing more. I am only going for the show - this should be amusing to say the least.

“E xactly. I haven’t been able to sleep since hearing about it, idk how we’re going to get through the weekend.”

This is how I’ve been feeling for the past 2 years doing the work of 4 or 5 people.

I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night trying to problem solve before the next day. Every weekend was just a protracted anxiety attack.

It seems like this place isn’t good for anyone’s health.

As a supervisor within this company, I can honestly say I have no idea what is happening. We were told we’d find out Monday. Our jobs are on the line too.

Ya, the town hall isn’t going to tell you more than you know. It will just basically be them repeating the email.

I’m sorry. You think they’re going to tell you in a town hall that you’re getting laid off? That’s not going to happen. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I feel like we will leave this meeting even more pi---d off and disappointed than we already are, laid off or not.

Buckle up ppl. Keep fighting the good fight in the best way you know how. It sure is comforting to me to finally hear other likeminded people share the same opinions that I’ve had during my time with Centene.

I have a massive headache, my stomach is literally turning…my supervisors have been in and out of meetings all day and yet they “know as much as we do” Please, just tell us already!!! Oh and all that town hall will consist of is them telling us we have to wait until next week to know. All BS.

You can attempt to join the zoom now, it will say “the webinar will begin soon” until it starts. I have a feeling a lot of people will opt out of joining. I do believe they record it and make it available to us on cnet to view later. Not 100% sure.

Is there any proof to this limiting the meeting thing? My PL are telling us to join ..That MO FO Sarah is now limiting people that come on to the Townhall? What the Fk is wrong with her. Employees are in crisis mode with this unexpected layoffs and this is how she operates? She tried to hide these layoffs and then she does this. She is fked up!

I’d argue that having to log every second of my every day and being questioned on what I was doing for 10 minutes 3 weeks ago, is much like having a g-n to my head at work.

It has to be said again that people are feeling slighted for wealth hoarding crooks making millions off of our labor while they take our bonuses away and can take our livelihoods away at a moments notice. While they keep lining their pockets.

It’s not about laziness, lack of productivity. It’s none of those things. If you have a “get over it, sh-t happens” mentality you must be in an extremely fortunate situation that you would be able to bounce back. As a commenter stated below, many of us are one paycheck away from living in our cars.

LOL yes, opportunities abound in the apocalypse.

Wealth and stability practically seeping out of the ground.

My grandfather owned 3 homes at my age. The bank still owns mine. I don’t know too many people better off than I am.

Time to wake up to the reality of the new millennium my guy. Stuff is f***ed.

What happened to Anika? Her LinkedIn profile still shows her employed by Centene.
Folks, throwing around unfounded rumors helps no one. Wishing ill on the company, helps no one. If you're so unhappy in your job, get another one. Nobody is holding a g-n to your head forcing you to work this one. If this one is the best you can do, be thankful. Life is too short to spend it upset about something you easily control.
I've been around a long time and been through a dozen or more layoff cycles with companies...been laid off several times including before I got this job. Yeah, it su-ks at the moment but I can honestly say not 1 time did it not end up as a blessing. Life is what you make of your opportunities.

There are always a max amount of people in Zoom TownHall Meetings. Not because they choose the max but because Zoom can only handle so much.

If I cannot get into the meeting because they are limiting access I will not work that entire hour. No one should be denied access to a meeting that will address the potential loss of livelihood for thousands of people. This is equally a bad look and is not doing anything to help them save face - not that they could justify it or save face anyhow.

What is up with only allowing a certain number of employees into the Town Hall? Why would someone limit the number of people attending? Is it because they anticipate the entire company showing up and are afraid of losing employee production?
