Working spouse premium

Does the company want my wife at home barefoot and pregnant? If she decides to go on my benefits, why do we get penalized with a "working spouse premium" since she has a job? I do not know of any other big companies that do that.

This was a policy at Sprint before the merger. If your spouse had a job and access to benefits through that employer but chose to be on Sprint benefits, there was a $75/charge. It did only apply to health benefits. You could have your spouse on dental and vision benefits as part of the "family" option with ni additional charge.

I was with Metro pre merger.
They gave the employee free health insurance and a free phone line.🆓

We also had access to Marlins tickets.

"If I remember right it’s $50 a paycheck which is far less than her buying her own."

Her employer pays for the employee premium, so it is free for her. Benefits are slightly worse than ours.

All big companies do. I work for T-Mobile but use the health plan from my spouse’s company. My spouse pays a premium

Most big companies have this. This is now the 3rd company I've worked for that's had it.

The only silver lining is that her claims contribute to the overall family deductible, which wouldn't happen if she were on her own plan.
