I don’t think software developers could ever agree enough to unionize. They always seem to be at odds with one another on everything.

And that would be….?

The main reason is that software engineering is equivalent to junior management in terms of available options and ability to resist unfair pressure on average, not blue-color workforce on the factory floor. The only true sweat shops are in VFX and some roles of computer gaming, and VFX is organizing a union.

“ I haven't seen in my whole life in multiple countries across NA and Europe any unionized software engineers ever. there is a good reason for that.”

And that would be….?

SW eng isn’t the only tech job out there. Heck, SW eng as a career could go the way of the dodo as AI gets more sophisticated. Did ya notice the AI protections that the Hollywood unions obtained through their job action? That’s what a bargaining unit can yield. Don’t have one? Too bad that you are an employee at will subject to job loss with no defense.

Great idea! It could be called the "CPU" (Computer Programmers Union).

If i was Oracle here is what i would do. Get rid of 50% of HR maybe more. Reduce Safra’s organization by 35 %. Anyone who is a manager, VP or director with less than 8 reports can them on the spot. Hire a mole to find out all the incompetence and remove them one by one. 60,000 people would be gone within 2 months. Reduce compensation to managers and higher for 3 years with exceptions approved by shareholders. Then go private. A union would keep all these clowns. I’ll be the mole if im vote in.

Union isn't the best thing. But employees need protection,
Mid mgmt is unlawful and unethical.
SEC needs to be contacted. Oracle publicly traded and accountability is required,
If the SEC were to truly investigate Oracle would be sanctioned because of mid level mgmt, it's a shame to the ones that do the right thing just like it's been a shame for thousands of employees for years. The corrupt mid level VPs need to be terminated.

Definitely retaliation. I'm not a fan of unions, at all ... however, I understand employees that enjoy their work yet, are faced with incompetent managers ( see post "Managers").

A much better solution for LE to wake-up and remove mid level mgmt esp Mid level VPs
and replace with true leaders, honest, accountable, disciplined, intelligent that care about being their best. Employees need managers than know more or at least as much as, they do. It's not the case at Oracle. How LE can continue talking about how wonderful Oracle is when, it's obvious it's a mess. Mid level mgt lies, cheats and steals from Oracle, daily and are miserable abusive psychotic non professionals.

Oracle has the potential to be great again but not with the present mid level VPs.
There are other companies that have horrible mgmt but not to the extent of Oracle.
Oracle wins for the most corrupt VPs in the industry and beyond.
I do believe there are groups of investors that are working on making sure the public is aware. Sometimes you have to take a few steps in order to move forward. The SEC's purpose is to protect stockholders. The first thing that needs to be done is for the authorities to remove the individual in GA. He continues to build his own case against himself.

That's probably the fastest way to see your job moved to a lower cost country. Very few jobs have to be performed at a specific location.

I think that the CWA organizes IT workers. But check your Oracle employee handbook about what can happen to your benefits.

Now’s the time.

You can bet there would be retaliation and you could sue. We’ve got a Union friendly POTUS, a rejuvenated NLRB and a pro labor environment, no matter how much TPTB try to dampen the job market.

LOL

Never going to happen. Oracle employees enjoy being cr*pped in. Otherwise they would work somewhere else and not at Oracle! Pretty basic.
