One of the VP's sent out a meeting for tomorrow and it includes the entire department. It's well over 100 people. It said try to attend if possible or something like that. Any thoughts? I'm nervous now. My guess is that they know everyone is aware of what's happening and want to calm us down.

100s of us in 2021 were let go via Teams and all in one meeting. We were in GBD. Yes a team meeting could be a RIF.
Not to spin a bad rumor but there is a lot of effort towards outsourcing. Depending on the type of work the entire dept could be told their roles are being sent to Carelon.
Unless the entire department is getting RIFD. If there are that many RIFS supposed to happen in one day, then i surmise some teams may be notified together. It has happened before and it was handled really badly by HR.
Good luck.
If it's the whole department, it's most likely either an update on current situation (though I wouldn't expect that on RIF day) or news that you're moving to a different leader (potentially more likely).
Based upon past experience over a score of years, they do this for the people that remain. Whether those who will be cut are invited is TBD.
What department?
