Hope those in Texas had a jump on possible lay offs from others so they could brace for trouble ahead. What is the ballpark total currently including those out west? Management has no union protection and is always first to go or get benefits chopped. Best to put a backup plan in place and prepare for possible storms ahead.

“ The neighbor sold the $Tesla and got a new bicycle since gas is not affordable but the supermarket is only 1 mile away and work is only 1.4 miles away. ”
I’m calling this BS.
Your neighbor needs a Tesla that doesn’t require gas.
Chaotic, rush, rush, misery jobs are not what today's youth seek. Times have changed. They tend to migrate to less stressful, mentally healthy work environments that do not rely on making numbers just to be paid nor do most care about a bonus system. Good reliable pay checks for good reliable work, kept simply.
What is the number up to in the Midwest now? specifically Iowa? Yahoo article mentions Texas package offered a severance or demotion with decision time ending last of September.
One of the UPS layoff articles is on yahoo.
why would they lay off right before peak season starts? looks like after peak in january would work better since everything slows down then. sorry for the Texians and any others regardless.
Shipping is a luxury. Buying the basics locally is the name of the game in todays drooping economy. Would not be surprising to see a 2008 down fall soon and not just for package shippers. The neighbor sold the $Tesla and got a new bicycle since gas is not affordable but the supermarket is only 1 mile away and work is only 1.4 miles away. We are not all going to be fit enough to try that one sadly. Hope it works. The basket on it is big.
Households are being gouged to death by paying 3x what u should for groceries and for fuel. Truthfully most of us are broke already. There is nothing left to buy and ship like we all use too.
UPS seems to follow Fedex moves, like the exact same price hike for 2024. But Fedex is right up front about possible layoffs and closing facilities. UPS does not follow Fedex when it comes to being forthright about that. Why? Management should have at least some kind of warning so that their families can get ready like the Fedex families. Just be honest and say we do not know the future but there could be some harder times ahead.
