Thread regarding Gulfstream Aerospace layoffs

Another Glint survey.

I'm tired of these asinine surveys that don't ask relevant questions to why the workforce is upset.
Pay needs a significant increase, not 3%, but 30%. Cost of living in every area of Savannah has gone up significantly. They have depressed pay to the point that people must work overtime now to make ends meet, which is exactly what upper management wants. They want you to work 6-7 days a week. No time for family, no time for a life, your life is Gulfstream.
Need to buy a new or used vehicle, better think again, car prices have increased 30% over the last 6 years. Need to find a place to live, better expect double the rate you were paying before. Property taxes have skyrocketed.
The Gulfstream average pay is $55,000, which is 17% below the national average. However, at Gulfstream expect the usual 3% cap on raises, extra bonus money that will be taxed heavily. We build premium aircraft, we deserve premium pay.

Every time you turn around everything at Gulfstream is about being the finest in aviation, to stand out head and shoulders above all the rest. Excellence is a core company value...

Except when it comes to compensation. There they want to be in the lower range of average.

Hey MB, how about you try for some excellence in compensation?

Minimum wage being low allows companies to keep their wages low by comparison. It makes $25 - $30 dollars an hour look like good pay, even when inflation and market pressures have caused the buying power of the dollar to decrease. The inflation calculator tells all; for someone who works in 2023 to have the same quality of life as a person with the same job back in 1993 making roughly 35 dollars an hour, the worker now would have to be making about 73 dollars an hour. https://www.epi.org/productivity-pay-gap/ shows that economic productivity has increased by 64.7% while real wages have increased by only 14.8%. Wages haven't kept up with productivity or inflation. The real question is, why are you so quick to lick of the boots of those that will never have your back?

It’s amazing how the clueless teach the clueless. Where are all these companies that have raised pay by 30% ? What does minimum wage have to do with what any employer decides is competitive pay. Get a grip go work for a Union and leave us alone. A

How did you get the ‘avg 55k pay?’

There is room in end of year budgets (depending on the % buckets for the depts) to give more than (and less than depending…) 3% rate increase.
Depending on—goals, performance, attendance, accountability….

Now, whether your dept or manager is worth a dime could also affect that as well.

Go work somewhere else. Get back to us all on your pkg of benefits when you do. Maybe we will follow 😉

I’m sure the cHRo has many employee facing plans that help drive engagement, after all with half the HR staff being Directors how can they not get it right…. Really two more?

So if your gonna su-k up to one of the two, atleast stick it to Gulfstream and go work for Hyundai so Gulfstream can suffer consequences of neglect.

Yes Hyundai will come and it will provide opportunity for the area and competition for Gulfstream, but don’t think for a minute that what they will offer will significantly different of better than what Gulfstream offers.

No more 6-7 days a week for us. Instead of dropping the rates to an 8 day and then 6 day rate like their plan was, they are now increasing to a 12 day rate. We were told today that overtime is about to be very, very slim.

Stop being the fools that Goofstream loves & form a union already. Yes they su-k but it’s a simple choice. You either make management rich by being brain washed dolts who continue to accept lower pay, benefits, & worse treatment or you man up & draw the line.

Even what they are offering now isn't a decent starting pay. Compared to minimum wage it is, but when minimum wage has been kept low for so long, it gives the appearance of a good hourly rate. Since minimum wage isn't tied to inflation like it was originally supposed to be, they can get away with .50 - .80 cent raises and say some BS that it is a competitive rate. With no competition in the area to speak of, who are they basing this on?

Hyundai can't come fast enough. They are going to find a huge amount of people leaving. 8500 jobs available and they can probably expand more. Upper management sees all manufacturing labor as unskilled. That's why they hire people with no aviation background and just eat the enormous amount of DRDIs that are being generated. Thats why there is such pushback to doing things by the book. They think that anyone can do this job, but the level of quality is going down when you have people training people with bad habits they have learned over decades of working here.

Gulfstream likes to bait with a decent starting pay. Once they get their hooks in you, family, local home ect. the pay stagnation kicks in and Gulfstream acts like they own you. They have the avaition manufacturing market covered in this area and they work very hard to keep it that way.
