Can you even get promoted here without being friends with somebody in the management?

I did, but I for sure think I am an outlier. Previous manager did not help my cause.

I am not sure about ethics in this company when all I am sure about are best friends forever covering each others a$$.

I'm not sure about promotions but if you ride mountain bikes or golf with the boss you'll never get laid off.

This sounds like a really bad company to work for.

Ok I'll try to keep it short. I was pushing for a promotion to the next level. I had started an ' action plan' based on the direction from my manager. I filled this form with questions blah blah. I met and exceeded every category. Approached my manager, she went over it with a fine tooth comb came back for me to work on one area where she saw a weakness.. 2 weeks later she was laid off. Along comes manager number 3 by the had to start his action plan his way. Well at this time because every manager I had to start over, I was applying out. Actually got a job offer more money higher level. I accepted the position. The new manager gave me the promotion that I had been working on for years. So it came down to the new manager promoting me on the fly and didn't even know me. I had to play hard ball. This was many years ago. Lucky if you even get an interview these days

Posting on the thread is a pretty good indication as to why you are not promoted.

You just need to make sure that someone deserving is without work to do and forced to do knowledge transfer for several months.

Best way to get promoted is to call a friend.

You have to either be a friend/protector or have a bag of cash or some other 'perk' to offer in order to get promoted in place. I won't/don't do either and have been told by management on more than one occasion that I will NEVER be promoted in my current position even with an exceeds ranking. The only other way is to post on a position outside of your area and hope that resource manager doesn't already have a fav/friend/protector in mind to hire already.

There was a lead position open last year. I applied, and other applicants but never any interviews. The position was created for a best buddy. How do I know? They are Facebook friends and visited each other on vacation. This person is a complete id--t. Much more people on the team were deserving but if you kiss a$$ then you go places!
