Thread regarding Lumen Technologies layoffs

Kate at WIT Conference, did you watch? Such an embarrassment

Never have I ever seen a CEO grovel at the feet of attendees and throw out job offers to people from the stage. At least she admitted that a number of her past roles were failures and that basically there many failures she's made in her 10 months at Lumen. LUMEN PROUD! gag....

I would like to see what happened to the money we were told that would be coimng our (employees) way? The ability to give the dividend back and give the employees some much deserved cash. No increases in 7+ years and the cost of living keeps going up. WGA, SAG-Aftra, and UAW are all at least loooking out for their employees and COLA allowances. What about us? Zip, Zero, Nada

Bringing in Qwest managers was the downfall. We were efficient and got things done before they came in with their ancient systems and cumbersome processes. Getting anything done doubled in time, if not worse. The only thing Qwest managers were good at was cooking the books.

Anyone who defends Qwest are fools.
They are embarrassed mom and pops bought the so called Giants. More like slum giants.

Hah hah, the dunking on Qwest is laughable. CenturyTel was a joke. Garbage systems and everything not invented here needed to be tossed. Throw away processes that had been working for years in favor total freewheeling do whatever you want. CTL was in way over their heads first with Embarq and then with Qwest. Running Hickville Phone Co (into the ground btw, they were laggards compared to other rural companies and coops) wasn't nearly the same as telecom companies in large markets or internationally.

So on glassdoor, they have approval ratings of CEO's. When the other bozo was CEO, I believe his rating was really low, like maybe in the 60's or lower. As soon as the CEO was changed to Kate she immediately shot up into the 80's, and today she is at 87%. But she did NOTHING and started in the 80's!! REALLY? I mean I'm all for hope and change, but this is ridiculous. She received this initial rating because she was a) not JS and that she was b) a woman. She's not done nothing in the first 10 months to earn the current 87, and I see no really plan going forward. No one in their right mind is is expecting an instantaneous turnaround of this company but how about a realistic plan and maybe timelines? Oh, and I'm sure no one is afraid of being led by a woman, so put your feminist flag away. We (oh and BTW, I am a woman) don't care who leads this company, as we would all like for this company to become stable and growing. But Book clubs, nepotism, the next season of The Adventures of the Glamorous CEO, and other nonsense isn't cutting it. Have you listened carefully to the latest verbiage that is creeping into meetings and interviews??? statements like... "it's taking longer that we thought". DOH.

I wonder how short of a leash the Board has on her?

The last commenter has serious fear for women controlling his life. Kate has been with us for less than a year. He doesn't want to give chances to any women.

Look at all the men who destroyed the company.
As an ex CenturyTel, the men of Qwest was the worst more than the Level 3. Level 3 had nothing to work with. Qwest management were the ones who put the brakes on innovation during the 2010's.
I had to deal with the frustration of the answer No on every project.

Guarantee is she gets canned for bad performance, she will play the gender card.

We are in serious sh*t right now. Please play your gender victim bs somewhere else!

On the pay side of things, The UAW is seeking a 40% pay increase over 4 years and a 32 hour work week (while being paid for 40 hours). A Big complaint is stagnate wage growth in the past, while there have been recird profits and huge stock buy backs.Where have I heard about stagnant wage growth?
Prices have sure increased but not pat.
The Auto companies have already offered 20%. Looks like on wages, the UAW will win.

UAW used to receive like 90% or more of their pay when on strike or when plants were idled. Dies anyone know if that's still the case?

You guys think we are having bad days.
Just wait until what's waiting for UAW.
All 3 OEMS will be doing drastic changes in next few years. UAW will seized to exist in few years.

The total sh-t show that is daily life internally continues.

The really d-mb things are still continuing. Every single day.

The decisions to obsolete what works and move towards a mess of unproven things is going strong. Of course they have no idea what they are doing or the impacts of doing so ... since a majority of experts are already long gone.

So as long as the internal mess continues, which resembles an episode of hoarders, this place is going nowhere fast.

Question.... how many VP's did she say at the Women in Tech conference that exited the company in her first 2 months?

Agreed that turnarounds take time, but other than trying to streamline things by having a stop list, I don't see anything else that she has done or is doing to help turn the company around. As a fellow Women in Tech, I was hoping for more from her. It all seems to be more fluff and book knowledge than tangible experience and results.

Turn-arounds take time, especially with a mess that Kate came in to fix. Not saying she is doing it well, or not, but it takes time, especially at this magnitude of a mess.

Why would the company do a buy-back now when it needs all of its cash? Its time to create efficiencies so that there is more cash flow, not less.

I figured with UAW going on Strike.
Lumen stock would free fall.
Other stocks have but Lumen stock gained today.

Look. The company is screwed up but a lot of the anger directed at Kate Johnson is just pure hate. Stop with the woke cr-p already. The problem that Lumen has is complex. All of the debt that Jeff Storey left Lumen to deal with is crippling. Why that man isn't in jail is beyond me? 2nd reason is the environment that "traditional phone companies" work in puts them at a disadvantage against Co-ops and cable companies.

Lumen messed up a long time ago not investing in fixed wireless and FTTH. Hopefully it's not too late to play catch up. What Kate needs to do is to spend more time on the front line with the employees who directly deal with my customers. All of our processes like Tech 2 Blow need to be fixed.

People thinks that things happen at the snap of finger. Why don't you go to work and make things work in snap of finger instead of whining!

  • Things do happen with the snap of a finger. Lumen is a good example. Snap, we fell to $1.36 in a single day. Snap, we sold 20 states. Snap, we changed our name and stock ticker. Snap, we stopped the dividend. Snap, we had a book reading. Seems like upper management can quickly change the company with no regards to the negative impacts in a snap of a finger. Stop thinking about Lumen as is its own entity. As if we are the only technology company. Charter, Verizon, At&t have more money, a higher stock price and probably a better development team

They are trying to come up with the next big thing and we are trying to stay above water.

I did not start this post, but I did give a negative to the previous and first comment.

Kate is terrible. I watched her conference and she rehashed the same ol promises with no timelines. The biggest item that the analysts point out on every quarterly report is our declining revenue. What is she doing to generate revenue? Nothing. She proposes nothing, only that we will continue to place fiber and offer NAAS. We are burning through our free cash flow and eventually we will be begging for customers to come back and bail us out. At the least she should buy back some or all the Lumen stock and show financial independence, but none of that was talked about. Plus, she needs to stop joking about rumors or how we are being perceived. It's not funny! Come out like a true CEO and talk like one. I'm not your neighbor or friend . I'm literally an investor of Lumen who is losing on Kate's snake oil.
