Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

Don't be afraid to move elsewhere

There is obviously a heap of sentiment at how terrible DXC is and how its continually sinking lower. That much is fsct.I'm not going to do that. Instead I want to remind you that there is a whole wide world out there that you can and should consider dusting off / rebuilding your CV and getting out there on LinkedIn and other job search platforms.

There are other robust service providers in the UK - ATOS, Capgemini, Capita, Littlefish who have a share of ex CSC / DXC staff, Littlefish and Capgemini especially as myself and other colleagues have gone to these 2, or you could do what many on the UK Secure accounts do and jump ship to the clients like BAE, Rolls Royce or Leonardo. BAE especially are looking to bring much of the service in house so architects, app SMEs and project managers are in demand.

There are of course other, smaller profile places too. I know someone who applied for an IT support job with his local council and ended up being offered a position as head of IT.

I think this attitude people have of dumping on each other is horribly unfair. Yes, there is plenty of dead wood, and people who are effectively useless or otherwise not adding much value (looking at BAE account leads like JC) but there are also people who are skilled but burned out, or so swamped or undermined in leadership by DXC / clients (like Matt R) that their good skills are handicapped by bad business. Don't pull each other down. Some of these people have been dumped in situ by DXC and forced to make the best of a bad situation. Some, like myself pre resignation, don't know any different. The nature of accounts like BAE mean many people are stuck in a bubble with no idea what is happening in the wider world.

My recommendation is to get out, don't be afraid to try. I left DXC a year ago and have been the better for it. Like many of you, I was worried I didnt have the skills or background to justify what I was looking for, but I pushed on. I went into an interview with a level of enthusiasm and confidence that convinced my current manager to hire me.

Although I technically have a base location 2hrs away from me I've never had to travel there and WFH fully, and I went from being on less than £20k a year to a fair bit over £40k. I don't feel forced to work 50-70 hour weeks in overtime and on call anymore, which I was doing at DXC to make up the low salary to support my family. I actively feel a sense of respect and appreciation from both my peers and my immediate leadership, whereas at DXC it felt hollow I've actually been rewarded with gift cards and stuff here.

This might not be the same for everyone, but at least the general atmosphere is better here than it ever was at DXC. Not every company is going to be like this but generally speaking the odds are you'll be closer to this than you currently get at DXC

Good post. You talk real sense. But unfortunately more than half of DXC are bunch of losers just riding on some legacy customers and accounts that HP, HPE, EDS and some other CSC accounts. No new customers acquired or no skilled employees left. The hilarious comedy is a bunch of guys collect pretty good salary saying turnaround is happening.
