Just to be clear, a hybrid work option relates to flexibility and is not defined by the number of days on site. The company defines flexibility. Whether it is allowing a day or days to work from home, or even partial days to accommodate situations, this is hybrid. I do know that USAA did require 2 days on site for some time but employees, both management and team members, did not honor that schedule. Some people only showed up once a month. I witnessed this myself. When you don't follow the rules, you lose the privilege. I have seen this happen at other companies as well. Companies will take the privilege from everyone if abused, and usually with a warning period. Prior to Covid, a true hybrid schedule was usually granted to exempt employees who travel or work excessive hours. I have worked on a flexible schedule in many forms over the last 15 years and it is always subject to change. Nothing is permanent!

That’s great about remote workers have a chance to move up. However, what about keeping RTO 2–3 days a week? 4 days is not considered hybrid.

What was actually said- remote can apply and hiring managers can evaluate if remote is appropriate for the job.
Translation- Remote candidates will be interviewed with an asterisk not on even field with other candidates.
Don’t forget hiring managers are also afraid for their jobs, will they be willing to making decisions against USAA’s new ‘in-person’ culture?

It is only because the Executive scorecards are tied to the scores. They are probably doing whatever they can to keep their bonus.

Surprisingly enough, I got promoted last month despite being remote. Granted I got rejected more than once for applying for the same promotion earlier because of being remote... I can say I am grateful for what I have given the market conditions for remote work; however, I am not thrilled for how difficult it has gotten to progress or how awful moral has been. Just wanted to throw it out there that there is some hope. I had already mentally given up the idea before I was told. Much like many others have.

I didn’t see it as he took feedback because if it mattered they would have never have said it without considering the remote staff across the country who were recruited to join USAA in first place! Pulse socked it to them and it hurts their paycheck directly - now how do we know they are being truthful in their new approach with remote can and should apply to roles posted as hybrid !!

Anyone still believe any words that drip from their mouths. This is the flavor of the month.

It didn't seem like "freaking out" to me. Felt more like he was being transparent with all of us. He heard, he took action, and wanted more feedback to take more action. You complaining about that?
