Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Is it just me or is this place joyless?

Just have to vent. I've been with this company on and off for almost 10 years. It's the most bureaucratic, soul-su-king, and dry place I've ever worked. I don't even have a stressful workload or anything. This whole company is just based around getting abstract claims payment software systems to talk to each other as cheaply as possible. If the VP level "leadership" (they're really just resource allocation managers) ever does a virtual townhall (I've had one on my current team in a year+ and he "couldn't make it" so a director had to fill in) it's the lowest-energy, "Office Spacey" cliched business talk imaginable. There's no inspiration. I couldn't tell you "why" we work here.

I know most people posting here think the engagement scores are faked but I don't think they are to a large extent. They're showing like record-breaking scores. Who are these people? Drones? Everyone's just coasting and doesn't want to blow a good thing? Are they crazy or am I? I only talk to like 3 or 4 people and there's no mirth or amusement. Even before WFH everyone you encountered just seemed miserable. It doesn't have to be this way.

A lot of miscommunication being done on purpose. This manager, he puts up with so much. I’m talking about a lot. They feed him either wrong information or no information. This dude has to be going crazy with the sh-t we see him go through.

Under Sarah the poet as CEO and some the old hr dinosaurs from wellcare( backed by Drew), they have implemented the darkest hr practices in the company history, don't trust anyone, they are just trying to get information from you, all that bla blah about dei and culture, is all in the facade, this is a company with a lot of problems and the Sarah poet is making worse, their only resource is firing people.

I feel the way you do but unfortunately mine is because of my boss. She gives all these assignments and expects them done in a fraction of the time it actually takes to do them. When we try to tell her otherwise… she isn’t having it. I am absolutely overloaded with work and having to work many late nights to stay above water and meet unrealistic deadlines. I’m exhausted. I’m burnt out. I am a hardworking employee with over a decade with the company. I am trying to transfer to another department before I end up quitting because I am done. I can’t do this anymore and I want to be able to spend time with my family in the evenings. I would even consider stepping down to a lower role just to get back to hourly so I can have my personal life back.

it really depends on where you are. I just left corp after a long time to go to a health plan and it’s a much better vibe.

Remember when we could post town hall questions and the most scathing situational questions were the highest rated but never answered? Yeah, those scores are faked or people blindly fill it out because they have no fu--s left to give

Some people lie so they don’t have to have bs engagement indoctrination enemas. Others have to complete surveys in front of their supervisors (great “team building” event)…rather than fix the problems, it’s easier to drink the koolaid.

There have been some good leaders , no need to say names, that have tried to carry over a good strategic plan for the better good of the organization, but they have been let go because they were considered not a good cultural fit or some other corporate politics bullsh-t, everybody is in complete paralysis, just afraid to get the neck out, or do something that might show their underbelly. The new mojo is culture, dei, collaboration, the company is ran by a mean teenager girl that is half a poet and half filmmaker that dress black and sweaters in front of investors because she seems to believe is the chosen one or some new Steve Jobs of healthcare, the reality is she doesn't know sh-t, the place is falling apart and the only is plan to let go people as fast as possible with the hope the numbers look better for the next earnings call.

I don't think the engagement scores are faked either. Not faked by the bean counters anyway. People have just learned that bad scores turn into waste-of-time action plans, so they (and I) say all is well so we don't have to be bothered.
