Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

September 1st

There will be massive layoffs starting September 1st company-wide. I am in SM and have created lists of names to be let go. I am unsure if this affects me as well at this point, but am preparing for the worst. This time it feels different than last…so I’m expecting the worst.

I’m in the OP KS campus

I would expect layoffs with all the recent executive departures. New leaders will use those leaving as scapegoats to justify culling the herd. If you’re under a recent departed sr director or higher I would be sleeping with one eye open for a while 😜

Announcements will come sooner than September 1, at least for some orgs. As early as next week.

Meh with ESIMs and the ease of transferring data. It’s really not a big stressor. I am not on the list I’m better than people that wait around and get laid off. I go find better employment! :)

If you don't think that an iPhone launch is a big deal and major stressor to the system, then maybe that's why you're on "the list."

Since when has the iPhone launch been a big deal?

2016? Lol

It won’t hurt customers in any sense.

Why would there be layoffs right before the iPhone 15 launch, especially after the cluck f of the past two years? It seems counterproductive and highly unlikely to happen during such a crucial and demanding period.

I am curious of a few things if anyone has any insight. Will they allow ANY remote people if they are top performers? Also, why does it appear to only be one channel attacking remote while other channels have a high number of remote?

So that means the Notices would go out 8/29 to 8/31, which puts the severance payouts (after your 2 months of WARN look for a job) at 10/31 (roughly) meaning they take this huge financial hit in 4Q where we traditionally make the most money. So you take off the Holiday Seasons in Nov/Dec and decompress, and start looking on 1/1.

Noob question - would the employees with less than 6 months of a tenure be affected as well?

Most people made the list based on performance.. if you have not been motivated to excel in the company for over a year and people know this along with your manager.. congrats… you made the list! It’s not that complicated to figure it out

Believe me when I say this.. as a 20+ tenure employee that was impacted in April, it was the best thing that happened to me and my family. Everyday was an exercise in restraining pure adulterated rage. Greener, healthier, pastures lay outside the magenta walls. A once great leadership culture does not value you. They don’t want you there if you’re tenured and if you’re remote.

It’s simple. Notification date is not separation date.

If you make the list you are lucky. You'll be getting paid to leave that toxic culture and find a career with human beings.

"It won’t be a Friday before a holiday weekend."

Why? That Friday would be the end of a payroll cycle for M-F people. Quite a few support teams are M-F. Makes things clean and easy, no extra week to account for.

Someone asked for criteria they are looking at.

  • Remote
  • Employees not meeting required days in office
  • Performance
  • Team demographics

They know tenure and salary. They’ll weigh those too.

Please list all the criteria that they asked for.

The 'reasons' for layoffs are just the fact that local management is given a reduction number and they choose the people they feel they can live without the most. In some groups it is an easier task than in some others. I've had rather blunt conversations about it with my manager since everyone knows it's coming. One thing he has mentioned as a possible factor is having a diverse skill set. I believe this may be a roundabout way of saying some jobs may become hybrids of different jobs in the near future.
