Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Exit interview

I'm done. I'm going to GTFOH as soon as I can.

I took notes on interactions with my boss and it's under the radar abuse. I'm the only person getting treated this way and it rarely happens in front of others.

I KNOW this person will harm my reputation if given the chance, so will an honest exit interview protect me from this "do not hire" list?

Also, will they get access to my inbox or just future incoming mail?

An exit interview will only ever be used by any company to help inform HR how they can continue doing whatever it is that they are doing. Anyone above you on the org chart already has more benefit of the doubt from HR and leadership than you did, so saying negative things about bosses will never help you. If there were real problems, only a lawsuit or threat of one has a chance of helping you - and it might actually hurt you. So unless you are prepared to sue, either don't do the exit interview or say lots of very nice things about everyone.

USAA does not disclose if you are rehireable or not unless you specifically use someone as a reference in management and HR and even then they tread very lightly due to liability. All employment verification requests are handled by the work number automated system and does not list your status.

The exit interview does not decide if you are marked as re-hirable. Leaving on corrective action is usually what causes someone to be listed as not re-hirable. The reason this status matters is if your future employer comes to USAA for a reference, then USAA will tell them if the would rehire you. Your manager should tell you if you are re-hirable. If you disagree with their decision, then call HR - 800-210-8722.

Congrats on leaving!

If you've done anything or said anything or have visited this site on the network, you're on the list. If you've posted to this site or any other sites biting the hand that feeds via the network, you're on the priority invite list. Screen Time, key Logger, and screen capture are all in effect. If you've sent or received anything you shouldn't have on their equipment, they already know.

But, if you think about it, would you ever really want to go back? Why return to toxicity? And who knows how long it will take USAA to return to the "good old days"? Possibly never.

You have reached this point because the situation is bad. Focus on finding something better. I would put my energies there.

@lxr+1o4kEH68 - when someone leaves a company it is either on good terms or bad terms. If you leave on good terms, you will be placed on a list that deems you can be rehired at some point in the future.

If you leave on bad terms - fired, poor reviews, stealing something, as--ulting someone...things like that - you will be put on a Do Not Rehire list. That means if you reapply in the future you will not be considered for rehire under any circumstances.

Everything you do on the company laptop can and will be monitored. As a rule, I never do anything of a personal nature on company equipment.

As far as exit interviews go, don't do one. You are under no legal obligation to do an exit interview. Just politely decline if you are asked by HR. You might think this is your opportunity to tell them how sh---y your manager was, and how terrible this or that process is. You will be wasting your time. Nothing will change. All it will do is brand you as a malcontent and put you on the Do Not Rehire list.

If you decide to do an exit interview the smartest way to play it is to say that everything was wonderful and that you are grateful for the opportunity to have worked there. Lie through your teeth if you have to but don't say anything negative. You have nothing to gain and everything to lose.

If a future employer contacts them for a reference, legally they are only supposed to disclose your position and when you worked there. But how will you know if they disclose any negative comments you made on the way out? I'm not saying that would happen but it could and you would never know, other than your new job offer gets rescinded.

So why take the chance? Play it smart and either don't do an exit interview, or if you do, say nothing but nice things. The first step on winning the game is knowing how it is played.

USAA uses the work number for other companies to verify your employment. The verification system which is owned by equifax shows your last held title, original hire and termination date. The system does NOT show why you were terminated or if you are rehire-able. However, if you aren't rehire-able for whatever reason, that information is kept internally and if a prospective employee directly calls your old manager or HR there are no laws as far as I know stopping them from relaying that information. Most HR reps however will just refer most employment checks to the work number system due to liability.

I don't know what the do not hire list is. Does it relate to information released to other prospective employees who call USAA to verify your employment?

Yes they will get complete access to all your emails from the day you started plus every IM you sent---assuming you are using a company laptop. They also will have the ability to see every website you've ever been on, every google search, every document you've printed, every tv show you've watched on that same computer. There is zero right to privacy in the US on a company owned laptop. It's awful but it's true. I'm sorry you are being harassed. That's a super sh---y situation.
