Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

8/10/2023 lay offs

There is talk of major lay offs taking place across Optum on 8/10/2023 over on the Optum thread. Apparently there was a meeting today with people leaders advising them on how to handle lay off meetings. 500+ people in the meeting

Anyone know if this is happening at UHC Thursday too??

This is horrendous. I feel like this should be known by the media . They probably have been losing the last two quarters and they needed to rebuild and what better time then doing it before bonus pay outs .

There's nothing for the media to report on. United won't confirm layoffs and there's been no WARN filings published

If we had a union this would not be happening.

No surprise. UHC just takes and takes from the workers and only give back harsh comments and it never ever felt like any job security. Glad to be cut loose.

@2asm+1o1vYwWX - what market?

Got laid off today, too. IT Manager.
Seems like the decision came from much higher ladder above, and definitely not my direct manager (she got laid off, too). I don't think there was much discussion about whom to let go neither, as leaders of my local unit seemed to be caught off guard as well.
REMEMBER, folks: Hold your urge to apply for internal positions, as once there was an offer of "commensurate position", you will NO LONGER eligible for the Severance Package (usually around +10K). Only apply when it's near the end of your notification period (i.e. 8/24/2023). And of course, you can ALWAYS apply for UHC / Optum jobs from outside as well (assuming you'd like to come back)!

@1mbt+1o1vYwWX what is the severance for 22 years, paygrade 28?

It’s true. In the Houston market we had a mandatory 8am and the group in the room were laid off with a severance package based on pay grade and years of service. My heart is broken and of course I’m concerned about the clinics. Moral is going to be low and employees are going to leave out of fear. It’s going to create a lot of turmoil in the clinics and be very difficult for those remaining to manage.

Has anyone gone to the media on this? I’m sure the public would like to know. This is a relatively large business across the texas and florida marketplace.

In TX, 20+ laid off 08/10/2023 AM via a single Zoom meeting; said not work performance-related. A different TX location, firing manager reported learning at 7:30 AM who to term after start of business yesterday :-(

This was Long coming. Probably still acquiring new practices like mad. Opening up to new business markets without preparation. Not supporting their providers, so that the good providers leave. This is ongoing for about four years… towards end of the stay, there were clinics with no providers, except for medical Director… many of the patients I spoke to were dissatisfied and wanted to switch out of WellMed Medicare advantage. This was communicated with top management in person several times. They said they had it under control. I guess this was the plan.

The crazy thing is a United Health Root posted 17% increase in revenues last quarter.…

We had multiple lay-offs at The Everett Clinic today. Managers have a meeting in the morning! Guess we will see how this goes. So sad! Even my manager was shocked about hearing about the layoffs. Not sure I like working for a company like this,we are all just a number.

Indeed. An approximate 10% reduction in force effective today, enterprise wide.

And yet in the wellmed town hall Q&A report the tried to claim there was no Hiring Freeze and there were sooooo many opportunities around. Yeah whatever dude, we get 2-4% raises yearly and they can just yank the carpet out from under you like it's nothing. All while claiming our employees matter. Get out man....

It looks like layoffs are accross Optum, here is Houston Texas at least, we had a meeting intrducing layoffs. Luckly our clinic was not affected but hear people were laid off 8/10/2023. So sad,its true what the forum say they bite more than they can choose. Buying out a different type of practices and cant keep business afloat. Its better to leave before it gets worse. They are just pushing people to the edge, i just quite had it. Looks to me we are just a number out of all.

All the remote Optum, everett clinic, polyclinic jobs are going to the Phillipines. It’s a project kept on the downlow for a few years now. Most evisits will be handled by chat bots. So many patients are going to die.

Anyone know how much of a pay cut all the big wigs took? Oh that’s right they didn’t. They lay off people with families and without notice. Other companies give a couple of months notice to give people a chance to find something new before they finalize the layoff. This was irresponsible and disgusting. Those left need to take advantage of all the training and education and certifications you can get. Don’t leave that money on the table. Make yourself marketable ASAP and go learn a skill that can make you money on the side. They knew when the CMS ruling was released this was going to happen but instead of having integrity they shafted not just people but families as well.

Got laid off today 8/10/23 first thing in the morning via teams. Was with Optum as a care advocate for about 6 months. Just had a meeting the day prior with manager talking about how my performance metrics were improving and I was right on track to meet them. They say our department is busy and needs the help but also laid off others in UM

It’s true. Entire Non par QFO team downsized. QFO managers in SC let go, SC CMO let go, all QFO pharmacists let go, about 10 from the C & S NC team payed off and many more today.

Multiple layoffs at The Everett Clinic and The Polyclinic, both WA organizations recently acquired by Optum. Seems like names were drawn out of hats. High performers with years of service. An email at the end of the day came out addressing the layoffs, yet mention of retention being a top priority. Highly contradictory and unsettling. Strong work ethic and dedication doesn’t mean a damn thing in this world.

Some of y’all have no idea how the WARN act works and it shows. Do you really think UHC/Optum doesn’t know what they can and can’t get away with under the law?
