Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Too many layoffs

There have been so many layoffs lately that nobody feels safe anymore, ever. People only laugh when you mention job security, it seems. I've never seen morale drop this low before. I'm shocked we're not seeing a mass exodus at this point, since so many people seem to be over it.

they finally awoke from their slumber to recognize there’s too much infrastructure and capacity for a data center centric business model, and the transition is painful How else do we explain two of the three HDD companies in financial distress when one shed its dividend Pandemic over hiring? Expired LTA agreements reduced volumes & pricing power? Falling ASP? All of the above?

@jid Summed up the scene at NRM perfectly (not sure where @jid works). If sales come back soon enough do we have enough people left to run the line at anything near to max capacity? Can the people left be motivated to believe anything management puts out? We have effectively no one left in the States to help our Asian Plants if issues pop up. Let’s not even get started on the Madoff level financial moves from the Dip Chitz in California. But hey the stock is on a nice run after the Dividend payment, all is well.

Layoff will stop when revenue can meet cost, including dividends...

Whatever morale there may have been remaining is now gone thanks to the IT overstepping.

Who moved my cheese? Yep you have to be prepared at ANY company to make a change, in duties, location, or company. If you don't prepare yourself you only have yourself to blame.

we know job security is a myth, so accept that, take charge, and make a difference here, or with all respect find an employer and culture that suits who you are

Look around. Lots of old timers who have knowledge and skills want a package to leave. Younger are quiet quitting and getting easy money without even showing up at the office. Lots of support people like legal, HR and PR just collecting easy money. Lots of director and VP with limited skills who wouldn’t be wanted elsewhere. And there you have who works here.
