Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Rehire

Soo I got laid off earlier in the year and got a job offer to come back making almost 5k less than I was making because "thats all they can offer right now" ... I'm feeling like I should just wait on the next train to come through and get a better offer somewhere else... thoughts? anyone else had good luck coming back?

No luck getting hired back. Even applied for jobs I’ve previously done. I figure my age and seniority are the biggest reasons. Only want back for the vacation I worked so long for.

I came back making way more than I did previously, but my new role is a higher position and I had the upper hand when I negotiated because they seemed me out and I am in a financial position where I don’t need to work so if they wanted me back bad enough, they were going to have to pay me what I am worth and it worked out in my favor. I know those results are not typical, but the point is to never settle and know your worth. If they want top talent, they have to pay for it.

Compromise on working half time for 5k less. If they want to pay less you can work less.

Forgetaboutit....AND MOVE ON! They did you a favor by letting you go. Take your experience - learn from it, and build on it. There are plenty of companies out there that haven't been run into the ground and filed for bankruptcy. They not only screwed their vendors, but their customers and employees as well. I too, am a former employee.

Nah. You should get at least what you were making when they let you go. I'd ask for more, because as you know raises don't exist here.

They should also bridge your time, so it looks like you never left. No reason to start as a new hire. You have years of service make them keep it on the books.

Depends on your level of financial security. If you are in a dire situation and need money immediately go for it -- but understand that they will likely lay you off again one day. Use the time to continue searching for a better employer.
