why should you be saved from layoffs just for having a baby. Are you more special for having kids than people not with children? all day everyday people i work with get to skip work because they have kids. either leaving early or getting a nice 2 hour break during the day or getting to be on and off the phones for a sick kid. meanwhile everyone else has to work like normal. why should people with kids get special privilege's?

My end of employment date is one week prior to my due date/start of my leave. Hope I don’t go into early labor over this.

"...expecting her first baby in 2 weeks! Total lack of compassion!"

That sounds illegal.

Heard one Optum employee in NY was eliminated today, who is expecting her first baby in 2 weeks! Total lack of compassion!

@PMB Queen -- Humana is having layoffs? Do you have any other details? What departments will be impacted.

Salary grade 29 with 15 years in Optum Tech and was let go today. 4-5 rated every year, and this year made a 2, all was a setup for this day. Oh and over 60.

Got let go today. Does anyone know if severance is taxes as regular wages or as supplementary? I can’t find this info only that it’s paid as lump sum.

I asked hubs...what will I do if I get laid off tomorrow? He said enjoy the rest of summer, then go look for a job. You are kicking a-s 24x7, it would be a nice break for you. I thought about it, he is right. What a huge change it would be to not be stressed out all the time but it would su-k for a bit as I figured out how to survive of unemployment. I was looking around at what I could sell if needed.

If we ignore the meeting invite, can we indefinitely delay it? What if we just don’t pick up the phone too? Two can play this game.

Enjoy your PTO. I'm remote and expect to be invited to a meeting tomorrow. Same stuff happening at Humana, CVS tomorrow. Several of us are working at WeWork tomorrow and broadcasting the meetings. Have some fun. Share in the madness.

wait, so everyone is in a teams meeting, and can see who else is getting the notice too? Thats nuts. Treat them like cattle on their way to get sla-ghtered. Record that action and hit TikTok with it.

Not sure if it's case by case, but last week people got last minute calendar invites for 15 minute slots to let them know they were getting laid off.

We get high every morning before heading up the elevators at Optum. Been doing it since the layoffs started a few months ago. We do our work and support our team members, all with a smile. Sometimes, we need a gummy to get through the afternoon. It is natural, it is legal, and it is how we cope. Mental health.

Are they doing a second sweep of departments that were impacted in the 8/3 round? Was told "last week was the first and only" for mine but not sure I buy that.

Agree with the “you got this” poster. It su-ks and I can say I know firsthand as a fellow person that’s on the chopping block, prob tomorrow. I’m a person, not human capital and neither of the rest of you. I’m also a leader, and a good one that’s going down with a ship of awesome teammates. I’m scared but I know that for some reason, it’s meant to be to bring me/you to a better place. We all got this. ❤️

WRT notifications, it depends on the individual managers. Some managers might take advantage of fortuitous timing (e.g. they already have a normal 1:1 with that person on Thursdays), some might have scheduled days ago, some might not schedule until the morning of.

So, assuming the basis of the question is to try to discern if one is "safe" if one has not received "THAT meeting invite" yet, the answer is, maybe. Sorry but that's the reality of things. All will be known in just a few hours though, for this round anyway.

There's not much more to add here.

Basically, this is a for-profit company. They are in the business of turning profits at all costs with the overarching goal of increasing shareholder value. To do so, the company must reduce costs to increase profits. Employees are nothing but "human capital" that is what they call us. This is simple accounting. Employees in this sense are not assets, they are liabilities that cost the company money. They offshore to find cheaper labor, they lay off to reduce labor costs which helps bolster profits.

Unfortunately, the reality is that layoffs are commonplace and the norm. They occur frequently without notice (except for those who tune in to this blog). It's part of the operating model and culture (toxic culture) while the Senior leadership collects their massive salaries, stock options and profits with the only goal of making more money, increasing profits and shareholder value. That's all!!!

Heard from leadership today that no one is safe. Said they “heard” there will be a large number of layoffs at UHC tomorrow.

Yes, obviously there was a round 8/3, this doesn't provide a counter to the notion that more (much more) is coming 8/10.

BTW, any managers that had direct reports that were affected 8/3 and those managers were not aware of them, if I were those managers I'd be a bit "concerned".

HR hosted. Managers could attend whichever of the four sessions they wanted (or multiples). Sorry, but not possibly to read tea leaves from this unless one noted the exact managers present.

Not a good assumption that no support for managers was provided first wave, just that first wave was a lot smaller so large scale training was not necessary.

I know it makes some people feel better to villainize, but the majority of managers who have to let folks go tomorrow are pretty gutted by the whole experience. This doesn't even factor in the fact that they are fully aware that they themselves may be in the "next wave".

This round is across the board, a lot based on "optimizing" the org in reaction to "redundancies" created by M&A activity. That said, naive to think that management isn't taking advantage of the situation to "prune" their orgs.

I’m guessing there was no training in this in the first wave? Horrible delivery with absolutely no recognition of contributions.

Previous poster is correct, it is just training.

Training on the proper way to let folks know they are being RIF'ed.

4 training sessions split between yesterday and today (2x each day). In at least one of the training sessions, as been reported, there were over 500 attendees, so the total number of managers trained is well over 500.

Good luck everyone.
