The way this company ships good paying jobs overseas to India and Ireland, allowing foreign nationals to have access to USA medical data, it should be banned from receiving any government contracts! If you agree then make some noise, no loyalty deserved here!!

Do people not know how to read or something? The post states that 500 managers were pulled into a meeting to give them a heads up that there will be layoffs. Presumably because those 500 managers are going to be the ones implementing those layoffs. It doesn't say that 500 people/managers are to be let go.

@1wqo+1o0036p4 It's 500 people managers that were instructed on how to fire their underlings. Those 500 people can translate to thousands of subordinates being let go.

Saying they're gonna axe 500 folks when the company's got like 500k employees just sounds weird. I mean, 500 is a drop in the bucket compared to that massive number. Wonder if these layoffs are gonna be as brutal as they're saying. Not sure, but no matter how it plays out, it's gonna be a bummer and kinda freaky.

Any one know if this is for UHC too? Or strictly Optum?

Sorry to say can confirm OP. Happening Thursday and will be substantial. Pretty much all departments impacted. Leaders who are not impacted are being instructed on how to handle/message. Best of luck to everyone impacted. Remember that there are plenty of other organizations that will value you.

Sad to see people in this situation. I left Optum couple of years ago when I sense the jobs will be going to cheap labor. I am happy that I made the right decision.

There must be two separate meetings happening at the same time regarding “change”

So sleazy how they handle layoffs. Plan for months behind employees backs and then tell people last minute like they were forced at gunpoint and had no other choice.

If you’re leadership reading this and don’t have the moral fiber to low-key tell your employees there are going to be layoffs, then you don’t deserve employees. Also, you’re a total sleazebag and one day karma will catch up to ya.

Did the training include how to be as cold as possible, drop the bo-b, and then slither away? By all means, make that hard working employee feel like sh$&

Now it went from mass layoffs to no layoffs. I feel like we are playing a game of telephone to see how many times this message can get told differently before it left the actual meeting.
Commenter that attended meeting with no speak of layoffs-are you sure you were attending the same meeting original poster is referring to?
Original poster, are you assuming this “change” they are leading means layoffs or this was clearly stated at said meeting because OI is the author of confusion.

The meeting was not titled "Leading Through Change" it was titled "Manager Notification Training." If you didn't hear layoffs, you were in a totally different meeting.

Good luck.

Ok, I just got out of the meeting and there was absolutely no talk of upcoming lay offs. Not sure where the 500 number is coming from

How to Lead Through Change - In Three Steps

  1. Know how to be a Leader.
  2. Go back to #1 because if you need these steps you failed #1

No one is safe, leaders, non leaders. Doesn’t matter. My focus now is to get the heck out of this place and am looking. If I get RIF-ed, then that’s that and hopefully I’ll be a bit ahead with some opportunities and collect some severance. I need to pay my bills so OI can go su-k my left one.

This meeting is Luke a training for managers who will be laying off workers from their departments. There are 4 separate trainings: 2 today and 2 tomorrow. I am in the 2nd one right now. Close to 500 managers in this training. The layoff will be big.

Because I'm not the one will all the information with who and where and what departments people are being let go from, that's what I'm saying. Instead of coming on here and saying how big this is going to be, either give all the info, or don't say anything.

Posters expecting people to divulge individual names are nuts! That intel will lead to the person and people need their jobs! It’s not speculation….it IS happening Thursday. If you are so brave to ask us to divulge, why don’t you post your name?

If someone would just drop the names of people being laid off that would be great instead of all the speculation and worry.

Exactly, OP is saying people leaders are being told off mass layoffs that will affect their teams — not that the people leaders themselves are being let go.

Post ID: @grz+1o0036p4

I think that they mean that managers are being notified and not that managers are being let go.
