HAMR has been a 20+ year project ; it su-ked hundreds of millions of dollars over the years. If you put an army on any engineer problem you will end up making progress for sure and you may reduce cost to a reasonable target and find solutions for many problems and might even make many heads work and perform really well especially if you add oxygen to the drive to reduce smears etc.. So yes you can make few drives to work but is it economical? can it compete? the answers are no. So STX must ki-l HAMR, get ride of RD and turn into a small manufacturing company to support PMR drives till end of life just like IMATION.. does anyone remember IMATION?

Seems like someone is afraid the investors may find out about our Super Secret Smoke and Mirrors R&D project. No Worries, I will play along. HAMR is about to put SSD’s Makers clean Out of Business. Not mention WD will soon tap out due to our World Class Debt manipulation techniques.

Korat will make HAMR launch successful. Pune and SSDC can wind up since it's bleeding the company .

SSD Drives doing fine helping out HAMR by adding more layers and cutting prices.
Tape helps from the other side.

'Going In Reorg Circles' is spot on with their statements. I was thrilled when we got to a point of CFR with a head that is workable. I am now discouraged with the "talent" (or lack of) who are trying to integrate into product. Who are these people? They cannot be the same ones who got us cranking out 22T PMR drives. It's like they assigned only fresh, inexperienced to make the first HAMR drive.

The problem with HAMR is not that it doesn’t work. The problem with HAMR is trying to productize it with no staff, limited budget, half a$$ Frankenstein builds, and new management with their philosophy of if we change group names and reorg just one more time it will make things better.

If you pay close attention to what you don’t hear that may be the important thing. Zero info on on wafer yields, zero info on performance or survivability from customers. Normally if a new product is doing well in the field the Million Dollar Office Brats won’t stop bragging about said product. The HAMR wafer starts have gone up a lot in the last two months but that means a full year before those get to Asia for further processing. A fickle customer base along with a low yield untested and expensive product? I’m not trying to be a downer here but please base your own personal family decisions on reality. Maybe hold off on that Italian sports car, just sayin.
