So does SAG strike keep Mattel Execs from rubbing elbows with movie stars???
7nus+1nulJYj2 I agree with you. Mattel won’t make much from the movie. Is the target audience the same as a Barbie consumer? Only time will tell, but it hasn’t worked for Hasbro. Why will it work for Mattel?
"Barbie" star Simu Liu recently said the film “puts the final nail in the coffin of the very heteronormative idea of what gender is."
Sounds like it'll be a real crowd pleaser. 🙄
I imagine Mattel is looking for the movie to drive a nice uptick in Barbie doll sales, that will have a much bigger impact on the company’s bottom line than movie ticket sales will, regardless of how well the movie does at the box office.
The movie cost $150,000,000 to make, they’ve probably spent at least that’s much (probably more) on marketing. So let’s say they’ve invested around $300 million prior to the film’s release.
Warner Bros will take 50% of the ticket sales with the other half going to the movie theater. So they won’t see a profit until the film makes more than $600 million at the box office. What Mattel’s cut of those potential profits is anyone’s guess.
How much does Mattel make on the movie ticket sales?
I for one hope that this isn't another warner bros./Mattel bo-b. It would be nice if my Mattel shares went above $25 for the first time in 10-15 years? Granted there are naysayers but I'd like to think that there would be something redeeming about the film.
Hmmmmm....seems pretty relevant given the number of articles, cover stories, licensees, noise around it. Of course, many are pay to play - and you can say what you want about "management" etc but the brand itself is part of pop culture.
