I'm curious how many of those who were rehired managed to negotiate a bigger salary?
I doubt that many of them did because I believe that only those who did not find any alternative in the meantime returned here.

I left USAA a few years ago and returned last year because I hated the company I was at. I was good at it, but the work/life balance and benefits su-ked.
Regarding the salary negotiation: Because of my experience and educational background, I negotiated my salary to be very close to the top of the range. I had all of the leverage because:
USAA had to wow me to leave my last company and they knew it. I could have just as easily stayed where I was. My salary after bonuses is in the multiple six figures, and it's not in leadership. The "external hire" premium is very real. So, if you've worked your way up at USAA and have only gotten the usual 2-3% annual raises and 7-10% promotion raises, you're doing yourself a disservice by sticking around.
Other companies will pay you what you're worth if you have the skills. If you've just been coasting and letting your skills waste away, well... not much I can say except "get to studying and good luck."
This place is pretty darn easy to negotiate a higher salary. I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t that came back
