Over 210,000 tech jobs were lost this year alone, and it's only been six months. Is it even possible to get a job as a software engineer anymore? I can only imagine how oversaturated the job market is right now and how much choice the companies have versus how little choice we have.

JPow gonna raise rates until that 210K = 420K and beyond.
Pivot career to canabis distributor. Hilarious! Sad, but probably true!
It's bad enough right now that even H1Bs are getting the boot, which means you are competing with workers willing to take any salary offered to them to get back in the game.
Companies are hiring. May be more competitive but their is still opportunity. Last time I checked, c-gate laid off some stellar talent. Many that I know personally have found jobs. Worst case, pivot to something new (e.g. data scientist, firmware engineer, or ca--abis distributor if you live in MN ... was just legalized, etc.)
tech is hiring, and healthcare and insurance software development is growing, you may need to consider relocation to another tech hub or remote work. If we think small, our options are small. If you are under 50 look to get the h*ll out of this industry. It has life left, but it's well past its prime. Every once in a while something comes along, like data centers, to breath life into it. We know the PC/consumer flash transition is nearly complete. In another 10-20yrs - AI may accelerate this - flash will come to dominate the data center, leaving hdd to be like tape, around, still doing the job, but requiring far less development and people. good luck
