I hope that there are still managers here who manage in the right way, by really trying to get the best out of people. What I see a lot instead is taking advantage of the employees' fears of losing their jobs in order to squeeze them. Anyway, I hope that we still have such managers here.

Yes, fear and shame based on metrics.
You can only encourage people so much but if they don’t change then of course they’re going to lose their job.
The best way to never be afraid of losing ones job is to develop your skills to the point where they are transferable/beneficial to other companies.
