Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Rewards

When are raises and rewards coming for people who against all odds are still contributing at a high level. Folks who were in consideration for promos. Those guys are likely not going to get a package, get a pay cut, are performing at +1 level for quite a bit of time and with no visibility to when the reward might come. This has to be brutal. Understand the company is struggling. But cant starve the high performers.
I hope the company does something for top 20% in next quarter.

Shut the businesses you need to shut down, but give promos to people

People are on the edge, and if there are no promos in Q3, better performing talent will leave in 2nd half. For sure.

This is notorious of executives. For everyone who has got a promo in past, you know how difficult its at times to get a promo. Everything should go right and all ducks need to be in row. So for folks who were there and due for it in last 1-2 years, are right now feeling the pain. They are already performing at a high level and being underpaid significantly.

Now with re-org we have a new boss and who knows if the employee needs to prove again their promo candidacy to everyone on the staff. This cr-p definitely su-ks for promo candidates.

Pat, open up the promos and take care of your employees.

The promo seems like will be in August. Dunno about the reward though.
Most people here don’t know anything about reward details because they don’t work at Intel. No need to get pi---d by them.

Don't hold your breath. There was absolutely no need to demoralize the entire company the way they did. It was done with the very specific intent of driving people away without the need to pay for large-scale layoffs and expensive severance packages.

Before I left I was told several times - "Be grateful you still have job". "Our leadership did things this way to avoid laying people off because they care". And my personal favorite - "Just hang in there! You're still in line for your promotion next year.... if we get a budget"

Of course, who wants to get promoted while the company is in financial crisis? You finally get your hard-earned promotion only to realize it comes with a 2% raise and an excuse like - "I know this isn't what you were expecting but, be grateful you still have a job..."

They can start with demoting all the *VPs promoted last year and the year before. Looking at the number of promotions handed over to the VPs, one would think that Intel is a leader in all its markets. The bar is set really low for management promotions. We ask our High School students to clear a higher bar to graduate.

@sxy, Yes that was true for Intel so far. But not anymore. As indicated by negative cashflow and reinvesting in the company. So investor is no longer the first in line. Rightly so. It would be foolish to think investor first in this phase of the company. It would become the AT&T of next decade if it thinks investor first. Loaded with debt, giving high dividends and dwindling share price and no company innovation.

If you want to be Microsoft, you must think company first which Pat is already thinking about, but he is failing to take care of employees who are going to take him to promise land. He cant keep that up for long.

There is no reason for employees to burn out just to see no raises and no share price growth. They must give promos else the company will hold the bag in terms of average employees, and top 20% will reduce their effort (which as far as I can see have already done), or will leave on their 1st opportunity.

This is not to say that Pat should go on all in paying employees. But paying 20% top dollar is super important. You must give some motivation for top employees to perform their 200%.

@tnc. the conversation right now is when the corporate will change their reward policy. It cannot be 2024. It would be a brutally long time ....

@jif, might as well be the case. But this is a flawed employee strategy for Intel, if I would have to do that. At time when the company needs pristine commitment and 150% effort from their employees, you cant win without key players in the company and positions. And believe me there are 20% of the people in the company on which the company runs. as this 20% drives the rest of the engine. So if the only choice best folks have is to jump the ship, its not so good for intel. Good people from other companies are not coming to Intel to work. Intel has lost its reputation. So Intel has been paying 150-200% for those external hires who do exactly similar work as some of the top performers in the company. So the folks who are here and performing well are way underpaid.

Contributing at a high level? Does that mean neglecting your family or working a ridiculous amount of hours and neglecting your own health? Define "high performer", most people at Intel think of themselves as one.

Never, you get rewards based on the performance of the company. Go to a better company if you want rewards. Stay at Intel for corporate welfare...

The more rewards the more off track intel will be , Indian managers only reward Indian. A random blind pick of reward candidates will serve Intel much better.

Let's be real: Intel only considers politicians, bloviators and family members as "high performers".

Intel cannot so-called "Recover". The accumulation of debt is now in focus. Nothing to fill the factories, behind-in-process tech and only HOPING for 18A to save the company is a fool's errand.
